Dialog Group: History and Creativity

Perhaps today, young people do not even know that once upon a time, back in Soviet times, there was such a mega-popular group “Dialogue”, the heyday of which was in the 1970s and 1980s. Let's see what was so unusual in her work.

History of creation

The Dialogue group itself, as such, officially came into being in 1978. This happened thanks to the efforts of the talented musician from Nikolaev Kim Breitburg.

In fact, the history of the group began much earlier, because, in fact, it was created on the basis of a collective called “Cords”, whose formation and first debut on stage dates back to the distant 1969 year.

The first line-up included Kim Breitburg, Anatoly Deynega, Viktor Litvinenko and Victor Bezugly. Later, many changes took place in the composition of the group, but, by the way, the first three members of the team remained together until its collapse, although the project then still remained “afloat”.

The end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s were marked by the fact that rock music was at the peak of popularity (in all its manifestations). The Dialog band at that time was almost the only line-up that was allowed to officially tour the USSR.

But this rock was still very far away. As for the period of the group’s work, in particular Kim Breitburg of that time, you can very clearly notice that he was greatly influenced by such grandees of art rock as Genesis (then with Peter Gabriel as frontman), Yes with inimitable vocalist Joe Anderson, King Crimson and many others.

Naturally, it was forbidden to perform music of such a plan by the Soviet system, however, Kim Breitburg very organically entered some elements of art rock into everyday musical reality.

Not to mention the first studio recordings and magnetic albums, the emphasis was not on chanting Soviet realities, but almost on opera suites, accompanied by grandiose light shows at the time, which, however, somewhat resembled Pink Floyd, although it was clearly not enough in terms of level .

What are such works as “Under the Same Sky” (1980), “Once Upon a Time” (1986), “In the Middle of the World” (1991) and others. What is most interesting, the first two were written on the verses of Kirsanov, with whom Breitburg never stopped working, and for the third suite the libretto was written by Arseny Tarkovsky.

Highest flowering

So, the rock group "Dialogue" was fully formed by 1978. A real success for the team was the performance at the festival “Tbilisi-80. Spring rhythms. " At the same time, “Time Machine” made its debut with Makarevich, and “Leap Summer” (the future “Autograph”) with Alexander Sitkovetsky.

But if the “Time Machine” offered, so to speak, everyday street rock, the Dialog group and the team then with the name “Leap Summer” focused on art. Alas, not all listeners understood this. That is why a little later the team began to deal with what we call “pop” today, although Kim Breitburg tried to include elements of serious music in almost every composition.

Listen to at least songs such as "Everest" or "Constellation of the Hounds of the Dogs" - and everything will become clear.

But by the end of the 80s, the popularity of the team began to decline. Firstly, “Tender May” and “Mirage” appeared on the pop scene, and the group clearly did not reach the level of heavy metal such as “Metal Corrosion” or “Aria”.

Meladze brothers

Despite all this, the Dialog group gave a start to life for such famous people today as Valery and Konstantin Meladze. Yes Yes! You heard right. They joined the group in 1989, although Valery was listed in a purely nominal composition. In the period from 1989 to 1996, the team recorded several albums, but they were not particularly popular.

Later, the leader of the group was Valery Meladze, and Kim Breitburg re-qualified as a producer and sound engineer.
