Voskresensk is located on the Moscow River, to the northwest of 80 km is the capital of the country. It is the administrative center of the homonymous district. The city is divided into seven separate residential areas, on the borders of which are located industrial and storage areas, river tributaries and transport pipelines.

Pre-revolutionary years
The first settlements located in this area are mentioned in the spiritual letter of the famous Prince Ivan Kalita, dated about 1339, written before the trip to the Golden Horde. However, archaeological studies show that the population in Voskresensk (territory) appeared much earlier. In the records in the scribe books, the village of Voskresenskoye is mentioned starting from 1577. The settlement was named after the Church of the Resurrection of Christ located in it.
In 1862, the Moscow-Ryazan Railway passed here, the constructed station and the substation village got their names from the village. In 1934, a working village was formed, called Voskresensk. Its structure included a railway station located near the villages of Neverovo and Krivyakino, as well as the territory occupied by a brick factory and a chemical plant under construction.
Recent story
In 1922, the development of the Yegoryevsk phosphorite deposit for processing raw materials began, from which a chemical plant was subsequently built. By 1934, the first four-story residential buildings and office buildings were built. In July 1938, the village together with several villages were united in the city of Voskresensk. The population grew rapidly due to the arrival of specialists and labor from all over the country. In 1939, 17,231 people lived here.
During the war years, the railway station was bombed several times, but the chemical plant was not affected by German air raids because they wanted to capture it whole. In 1954, the large village of Kolyberovo was annexed to the city. The population of Voskresensk by 1959 increased to 44,759 people. All subsequent Soviet years, the number of inhabitants continued to grow rapidly, in 1992 in the city there were already 81,700 people.
Modernity
In the first decade of the post-Soviet era, the crisis hit the cityโs economy. Accordingly, the population of Voskresensk was constantly decreasing. In 2004, 77,871 people lived in the city. In the same year, the working village of Lopatinsky was annexed to Voskresensk. In this regard, and the improvement of the economic situation in the country, the number of inhabitants increased to 91,200 people by 2005, for the first time exceeding the Soviet level in this indicator. At the same time, the city settlement Voskresensk was formed, which included the city and surrounding villages.
From 2008 to 2016, the population of Voskresensk continued to grow, mainly due to natural growth. In 2016, the city-forming enterprise Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers was incorporated into Uralchem โโJSC. The plant is now the fourth largest producer of phosphate fertilizers. In 2017 and 2018, the number of inhabitants decreased slightly. In 2018, 93 565 people lived in Voskresensk.
