Cement floor: features, advantages, disadvantages and DIY device

Cement flooring is an ideal, safe option for covering both in the house and in industrial facilities. Due to its high strength, it is in great demand. As for the cost, this is a very democratic option. The quality of the floor depends on the manufacturer of the mixture, so it is always better to choose a trusted manufacturer. During the installation process, it is important to adhere to the established rules. The result of the work is a beautiful high-quality floor that can be painted in different colors and shades.

Polymer cement bulk floor

Features

The mixture for a polymer-cement bulk floor consists of two components:

  • cement;
  • plasticizers (polymers).

In addition, sand is added to it to increase anti-slip properties, as well as various pigments (depending on the color chosen).

The role of polymers can be performed by synthetic latex rubbers or a suspension of PVA. Colored Portland cement is sometimes used to enhance decorative qualities.

Thanks to the polymer, a thin film forms on the floor surface, which protects the material from moisture and adverse conditions. It also increases grip. In addition, polymers give the composition elasticity, but at the same time strength.

High strength, which has a polymer-cement floor, can adequately withstand all sorts of loads. This type of floor is resistant to abrasion, the influence of a chemical and oil environment. In the case when a certain section of such a floor was still deformed, it is not difficult to fix it with a newly manufactured mass. To do this, there is no need to remove the entire coating.

Benefits

The mixture for polymer cement floor has the following advantages:

  • strength;
  • hardness;
  • wear resistance;
  • aesthetic appearance;
  • durability.

Such a floor has such an important quality as high vapor permeability. Due to this, excess moisture goes away. The advantage of this coating is also the ability to lay the mixture on top of concrete on a screed that has not yet completely frozen.

In addition, it can be used as the main screed. After all, the mixture can be applied in a fairly thick layer - three centimeters. An important feature of the polymer-cement coating is also the ease of pouring. This floor can be equipped with your own hands.

disadvantages

Polymer cement floor has few disadvantages. All of them are insignificant, but one is worth highlighting. The finished mass for a polymer-cement floor should be laid only in rooms that are carefully closed and protected from drafts as much as possible. This is a prerequisite, if you ignore it, the floor simply will not freeze. This will not achieve good results.

Where applicable

Polymer-cement flooring is ideal for commercial or industrial buildings: workshops, factories, garages and basements. Also it is perfect for gyms, dance floors, airports. The scope of the polymer cement floor is very wide. It is worth considering the most common options. The features of each of them are presented below:

  1. Garage rooms and parking. Such floors in garages and parking lots will not wear out, they will not be affected by any chemical environment.
  2. Warehouses. Cement flooring is great for outdoor and indoor storage.
  3. Industrial premises. The high resistance of floors to shocks and all kinds of damage allows you to effectively use them in almost any modern production.
  4. Food industry. Floors are environmentally friendly and safe, so they can be used in the premises of food factories and plants.
  5. Medical and pharmaceutical industry. The use of polymer cement floors is officially approved in these areas.
  6. Residential premises and offices. This is an ideal option, possessing not only wear-resistant qualities, but also aesthetic.
  7. Freezers
  8. Sports grounds. The polymer-cement floor does not slip, so it is perfect for sports.

DIY flooring

The advantage of polymer cement floors is a quick commissioning. On day 5-6 he will be ready. It does not require reinforcement and grinding. There is also no need to additionally protect it from moisture and use dedusting impregnations.

Such floors are equipped where there is no way to make a concrete screed. For example, the reconstruction of the floor in the shops of industrial enterprises must be carried out as soon as possible and at an affordable cost. Therefore, pouring with polymer cement is preferable here.

The order of work

The polymer-cement bulk floor does not shrink, usually 30 mm thick is enough to lay it on a rough foundation or inclined surface. Phased work:

  1. First make markings for the guides on the selected base.
  2. In the place where the guides will be stacked, screw the screws in increments of 5 meters. Twine is pulled between them, and the average coating thickness is taken into account.
  3. The surface of the base must be primed. Use ready-made compounds. If there are cracks, they must be expanded, and then primed.
  4. A polymer cement solution is applied to the primer.
  5. Then guides are buried in the solution. Their top edge should touch the stretched twine.
  6. The distance between the guides and the base is filled with a polymer cement screed for the floor.

This type of floor is easy to clean. All its excellent qualities fully justify the purchase.
