Many vehicle drivers have difficulties entering and leaving yards, parking lots, parking lots and other similar places. This problem is especially relevant for beginners. In order not to get a fine and not to lose a driver’s license, you should know what the surrounding area is. After all, parking, residential areas, and gas stations also apply to this term.
What is the adjacent territory
SDA answers this question as follows: this is a section of the road located in close proximity to the carriageway, not suitable for through traffic. It includes parking lots, gas stations, courtyards and more. Traffic in this section of the road is determined by traffic rules. The adjacent territory allows you to enter and leave it, but, as already mentioned, it will not be possible to pass through it.
How to determine the adjacent territory
A common misconception is to consider the intersection of the roadway and adjacent territory as a crossroads. They need to learn to distinguish. Indeed, for the intersection, there are certain rules (traffic rules). The adjacent territory, in turn, is characterized by other, different rules from them. Therefore, in order to avoid punishment from the traffic police, the driver must clearly know both of them.

To learn how to distinguish them, first of all, you should remember the definition and signs of both sites. If in front of you is a road intersection with traffic lights and signs, then you are at a crossroads. Such differences are spelled out in the Rules of the road. Also, according to traffic rules, only at regulated intersections and pedestrian crossings traffic lights are installed. Locate them in the adjacent territory does not allow the rules. The same about traffic signs say traffic rules. The adjacent territory (entry and exit) is not equipped with them. Therefore, this zone does not belong to intersections. There are no sidewalks or carriageways in the surrounding area.
Knowing what signs of an intersection exists, it is easier to recognize it. So, and distinguish from the above zone. However, in real conditions on the road it is not always possible, unfortunately, you can quickly realize what is in front of you.
Difficulties are caused by the yard territory. After all, there are sidewalks on it, but no traffic signs. It is similar to the adjacent, but it is not. The rules of movement in this zone are spelled out separately in the general set of traffic rules. The bans in the yard are the same as in the surrounding area. One of the differences is that the pedestrian on the first has the right to move both along the sidewalk and along the roadway. But this does not mean at all that with impunity they can interfere with the passage of vehicles.
Adjacent traffic
Driving rules for this section for the most part come down to prohibitions. Only observing them, you can make movement in the adjacent territory. Traffic regulations prohibit on such site:
- move on a vehicle with a speed above twenty kilometers per hour;
- provide driving training;
- leave the vehicle with the engine running for more than five minutes;
- to leave trucks with a total mass exceeding three and a half tons.
Plus, do not arrange parking for cars on the lawns. Not only is it uncivilized, it is also prosecuted by law.
Speaking about the parking, it is worth noting that the so-called parking pocket, which is located ten meters from the apartment building, also falls under the definition of "adjacent territory".
The driver of the vehicle, moving on this site, must give way to all pedestrians. In order not to be overtaken by punishment, you should follow this section of the SDA. The adjacent territory has no advantages over the roadway.
Departure
The implementation of this maneuver is carried out according to one rule. Skip all traffic participants, and then make a departure from the adjacent territory. Traffic regulations indicate that in addition to cars moving from left to right, it is necessary to give way to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles moving from right to left.
SDA: U-turn from adjacent territory
It is not always possible to carry out the desired maneuvers, and the reason for this is a narrow roadway or vehicles left parked. The surrounding area comes to the rescue here. Here you can make a U-turn. Naturally, this must be done taking into account the rules, and not become an obstacle to other vehicles that move along the roadway.
The adjacent territory can be located either on the right or on the left. The technique for performing a U-turn differs due to its location.
- The surrounding area is located on the right. Drive a little ahead. You stop. Skip cars, if any, then reverse, without interfering, drive into it. With this movement, you have the opportunity to correctly assess the situation on the main road. Once in the adjacent territory, turn on the left turn and in the lumen of the automobile stream you exit from it according to the SDA.
- The adjacent territory is located on the left. This maneuver is a little more complicated than the previous one. Turn on the turn signal. The vehicle must be in the far left lane. If necessary, skip oncoming cars. Then, before entering the adjacent territory. Try to drive as close to the right side as possible. After your vehicle has completely left the main road, stop. Now, carefully, without interfering, we drive backwards from the adjacent territory.
Parking
Parking and stopping of vehicles in the adjoining territory is carried out in the same way as in other sections of the carriageway. According to the signs and markings, parking is carried out in the adjacent territory. SDA for parking and stopping the car does not depend on the belonging of road sections to one or another category. The same can be said about penalties for inappropriate parking.
Punishment for violation of traffic rules in the adjacent territory
Travel to these sections is carried out in accordance with the Rules of the road. And since they are, it means that there are punishments for their violation.
So, parking lots and gas stations, and more precisely, their entries and exits, are indicated by road signs. Therefore, if the vehicle drove in the opposite direction, then this is regarded as riding in the oncoming lane. For this misconduct, the driver may lose the ability to drive a car for six months or will be required to pay a fine of five thousand rubles.
Sometimes at the intersection of the adjacent territory and the carriageway a prohibition sign is installed. It refers to the road. Failure to comply with the rules will result in a fine of five hundred rubles.
In the adjacent territory, the ban on through passage is most often violated. For this misconduct, the driver will be punished by a fine of one and a half thousand rubles.
Other violations in the adjacent territory are fraught with the same consequences as non-compliance with traffic rules in other sections of the road: exceeding the permissible speed, driving while intoxicated, and so on.
In the parking lot there is an opportunity to be fined if you took a place for the disabled. In the case when the vehicle of a person with disabilities is not indicated with a special sticker, he will also be punished.
Recommendations
A pedestrian in this area is always right, as traffic rules say. The adjacent territory is a special zone, drivers are simply obliged to give way to citizens on this site.
When leaving the adjacent territory, you should stop your vehicle in close proximity to the main road - this will allow the driver to see traffic in both directions.
When making a U-turn from an adjacent territory on the left, it is very important to correctly assess the situation. So, you initially need to drive in front of her, but let's say a pedestrian walks there. As a result, you stop in order to skip it, and the car is located across the oncoming lane. Thus, you interfere with the movement of other vehicles. Therefore, before you turn into the adjacent territory, see if there are any approaching pedestrians, cars or animals.
