Drywall the walls

Undoubtedly, each of us, when it comes time to make repairs, faces a difficult choice. Everyone wants to purchase the highest quality building materials and, of course, at an affordable price. And if modern houses are built in compliance with a number of requirements, and for leveling the walls in the premises it will not be necessary to erect complex structures, then in houses of old buildings there are much more problems with repair.

Often the surface of the walls leaves much to be desired, and if, for example, you want to make decorative plaster or paint the walls, then they should be perfectly even. Here, such a method as leveling the walls with drywall just comes to the rescue. This method has several advantages. The first and important one is the naturalness of the material (the acidity of gypsum is close to the acidity of human skin). Also, with the help of this building material, it is possible to solve the problem of sound insulation, and in wooden houses - fire resistance. Aligning the walls with drywall is also suitable for bathrooms if moisture resistant sheets are purchased that can be finished with tiles.

In addition to moisture-proof (GKLV) and fire-resistant (GKLO), there are two more types of drywall. GCR - normal; it is applied in rooms with relative humidity no more than 75%, color gray. And GKLVO - moisture resistant, with increased resistance to open fire. Its color is red.

Methods for attaching drywall to the wall

Aligning the walls with drywall can be done by two main methods. The first is the construction of a metal frame with the subsequent fastening of sheets to it. And the second (frameless) - gluing sheets using an adhesive mixture. This method is convenient in that it takes several times less time than when attaching drywall to a pre-erected structure. But in this case, we will not solve the problem with additional sound insulation, as well as insulation. Therefore, choosing how to fix drywall to the wall, you need to proceed from what functions it will perform in the room.

Let us consider in more detail each of the mentioned methods. The method of frameless mounting is suitable in cases where the walls have minor irregularities. The process is quite simple: on the back side with a spatula with centimeter teeth we apply the adhesive composition. In places coinciding with the roughness of the surface to be glued, add a little more glue. Thus we fill the gaps between the sheets and the wall. Do not forget to leave at the joints of two sheets a distance of about 5-7 mm. This is due to the fact that gypsum board is a โ€œbreathingโ€ material, that is, with increasing humidity in the room, the sheets seem to expand. We will close these seams during the finishing with putty.

Aligning the walls with drywall by attaching to the frame from a perforated profile is a little more difficult, but it makes it possible to additionally warm the room. Before proceeding with the manufacture of the structure, it is necessary to mark the floor on which the guide profiles will be attached . Using a laser level or plumb line, which is much simpler, such markings are transferred to the ceiling and then to the walls. Next, insert the rack profiles into the guides and fasten with screws. The thickness of a standard drywall sheet is 120 cm. Therefore, the distance between the rack profiles should be 60 cm so that the sheet rests with its middle against the rack profile to which it is attached. To provide additional structural rigidity, we connect the rack profiles with transverse jumpers. Fill the holes with mineral wool or other insulating material. You may be able to handle this work yourself, but you can do it competently only with at least small skills. Therefore, in deciding the question: "How to align the walls with drywall?" You can not do without a specialist. Especially if you want to make a multi-level ceiling, an arched interior passage or niches that fill your favorite books in addition to leveling the walls.
