The car interior heater (stove) is intended not only to create comfortable conditions for the driver and passengers in cold weather. Its role is also to provide proper visibility by blowing warm wind into the windshield, removing frost and moisture from it. In severe frost, it is unlikely that you can ride normally without a heater on.
But sometimes it happens that the stove refuses to work, and at the most inopportune moment. Unfortunately, for our cars this is not uncommon.
If you suddenly find that the stove has stopped working in your VAZ-2110, do not rush to the service station, take a few minutes to independently diagnose it. If you are lucky, you can fix it yourself, but if not, you will at least know what the problem is.
Features of the design of the heater VAZ-2110
The design of the ventilation and heating system of the Tens cabin is significantly different from the cars of the Samara family. It is more complex, but also more efficient. Firstly, there is no heater tap, that is, the coolant, circulating in a large circle, constantly enters its radiator. Therefore, if the VAZ-2110 stove does not work, do not immediately sin on the faucet and look for it. The temperature of the air entering the cabin is regulated by a damper driven by an electric micromotor, which is controlled manually using a special controller, as well as automatically by the car controller.
Secondly, manual adjustment does not occur on the principle of "warmer-colder", but by creating the desired temperature with a special switch.
Thirdly, in the βtensβ cabin there is a temperature sensor, focusing on the readings of which, the electronic control unit of the machine can independently adjust the temperature and distribute air flows.
The VAZ-2110 stove does not work: reasons
We will figure out what kind of heater malfunctions we may have to face. Immediately, we note that if the VAZ-2110 stove does not work, this does not mean that its entire structure immediately failed. Usually the cause of this is the breakdown of one of its elements.
Before proceeding with the diagnosis and search for a possible problem, it is necessary to clearly determine for yourself how the VAZ-2110 stove does not work: it does not blow at all, it blows cold air or blows a little warm air. Focusing on these signs, it will be possible to conclude which of these elements failed: a fan,
a control unit, a damper, a thermostat, a radiator, or even a cabin filter.
What's wrong with the fan
The first and most common reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work is that the fan does not work. However, there may be several options:
- defective heater controller fuse;
- malfunction of the mode switch on the control unit;
- malfunction of the drive (electric motor);
- breakage of wiring.
Turn on the ignition and set the fan mode switch to any position other than off. If at the same time you donβt hear a characteristic hum and feel air movement from the deflectors, you can be sure: the reason that the VAZ-2110 stove does not work is that the heater fan does not work.
Checking the fuse
Let's start with the simplest. We raise the hood and find the mounting block there, and in it is the F-18 fuse. It must be removed from the seat and checked by the tester for suitability. There is another way to check, and it is much simpler. In the "top ten", this fuse is responsible for the safety of not only the heater controller, but also the glove compartment illumination lamp, as well as the cigarette lighter.
Turn on the ignition, open the glove compartment and look at the lamp. If it used to burn, but not now, most likely the reason is the same for which the VAZ-2110 stove does not work. The fuses for the heater fan are rated at 25 A. Keep this in mind when replacing.
Switch, electric drive and wiring
Itβs a little harder to check the health of the fan switch. To do this, you need to remove the control unit and the tester in the ohmmeter mode to diagnose a variable resistance resistor.
To check the electric drive itself, it is necessary to remove the decorative linings near the windshield from the outside and dismantle the electric motor. You can determine its serviceability by connecting the drive contacts directly to the battery terminals.
As for the wiring, its integrity is checked by the same tester in the mode of a voltmeter at the contacts of the fan motor. If there is voltage on them (when the drive is on), then the wiring is intact. Otherwise, it is better to contact an electrician.
The VAZ-2110 stove does not work: cold air blows
But cold air from the deflectors may indicate that:
- the damper jammed in a position that blocks the flow of warm air from the heater radiator;
- defective damper drive;
- defective shutter position switch;
- there is obstruction of the heater radiator, as a result of which the heated coolant does not have the ability to circulate normally.
Cold air: actuator or damper
If the VAZ-2110 stove does not work, cold air blows, the first thing we check is whether the drive is trying to change the position of the damper. To do this, turn on the ignition and rotate the position switch. At the same time, you should hear if the electric micromotor is working and whether the shutter moves. If nothing like this happens, you need to look for the problem in the switch itself, checking for serviceability, or in the drive motor. In any case, you will have to dismantle the entire heater.
If you hear that the damper actuator is working, but it does not change its position, most likely, it simply jammed. In the "dozens" can be found two types of valves: plastic and metal. And if the latter is jammed quite rarely, then for plastic ones, which were equipped with the first VAZ-2110 series, this is a common occurrence. The fact is that plastic is deformed under the influence of hot air, which, in fact, leads to jamming. To correct the situation, you will have to dismantle and disassemble the heater.
Not warm enough
It also happens that in the VAZ-2110 car the stove does not work well, that is, insufficiently warm air enters the cabin. There may be two reasons:
- the damper jammed in a position in which it does not completely open the air from the heater radiator;
- thermostat malfunction;
- malfunction of the radiator stove.
We already talked about how to fix the situation with the damper, but the thermostat and the radiator are a separate conversation.
Thermostat and heater radiator
The reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work may be a malfunction of one of the elements of the cooling system. We are talking about a thermostat and a radiator stove. In the first case, the coolant due to a malfunction of the thermostat will circulate in a small circle. Naturally, it will not get into the radiator of the heater. As a result, cold air will enter the cabin.
Checking the thermostat is easy. To do this, warm the engine to operating temperature and raise the hood. Touch the bottom pipe of the cooling radiator. It should be hot (warm). If it is cold, it is safe to say that the stove stopped working in the VAZ-2110 precisely because of the thermostat jammed in the closed position. If the nozzle is warm, the problem should be sought further.
Another reason why the VAZ-2110 stove does not work may be a malfunction of its radiator. Most often, it becomes impassable or not completely passable for coolant that carries heat. This happens due to subsidence on the inner surface of its tubes of scale and dirt.
To check a radiator of a heater, warm up the engine and find its two branch pipes in a motor compartment. Touch your hand to them. They should both be hot. If the inlet is hot and the outlet is cold or slightly warm, the radiator is clogged. The problem of its obstruction is solved either by washing with the use of special fluids, or by replacing the element.
It does not hurt to check the filter
The cabin filter can also cause the stove to malfunction. Some car owners have not paid attention to this element of the ventilation system for years, although even for their own sake they must replace it together with other consumables.
A clogged passenger compartment filter creates serious resistance to air intake, and as a result, the fan may not be able to cope. In this case, both cold and hot air will flow into the cabin in a weak stream.
Useful Tips
Finally, here are a few tips that may help extend the life of your car's interior heater.
- So that the malfunction does not catch you by surprise, check the stove's performance even in warm times when it is not in use.
- Pay attention to the performance of the cigarette lighter and glove box light. In case of malfunction, check the stove.
- Monitor the temperature of the coolant in the system. Remember that its overheating may indicate an inoperative thermostat, and this is fraught not only with problems with heating the cabin, but also with the failure of the entire engine.
- Do not add poor-quality coolant to the system. This will sooner or later lead to the formation of scale and obstruction of the heater radiator.
- Change the cabin filter along with the oil and fuel according to the scheduled maintenance schedule.
