"Road of Life": a description of the monuments
Recently, three monuments have been restored: “Flower of Life”, “Katyusha” and “Communication Center of the Troika-1 Front”.
The main, most impressive of them - the beautiful monument "Flower of Life" - was built on the third kilometer of the legendary "Road of Life". It is dedicated to the many children who died during the war during the siege of Leningrad.
The next monument, Katyusha, is located on the 17th kilometer of the glorious Road of Life. It symbolizes the famous military rocket launcher. Built in 1966 on a small hill near the village of Kornevo, Leningrad Region. It is dedicated to the anti-aircraft battery, which covered the airfield in Uglovo during the blockade and the entire salvation road from attacks by enemy aircraft.
The third Troika-1 memorial (1975) is located on the outskirts of the village of Vaganovo, Leningrad Region. It was built at the initiative and at the suggestion of the Council of Veterans, who served in the Leningrad Front communications troops. During this war, a contact point for this front was located in this area. He connected an underwater cable (along the bottom of the lake) of besieged Leningrad with large land. The permanent and uninterrupted operation of this point (Troika-1) was provided by the signalmen of the 376th battalion and the 26th department of the communications regiment.
The history of the construction of the monument to children
The monument "Flower of Life", dedicated to children, began to be built in August 1968. The name of the monument says that where death was, in spite of everything, youth conquered. A flower through stones makes its way to the light and rises upward.
"Flower of Life" is located in the valley of the Luppa River, on the most elevated part. Thus, he affirms life, despite difficulties and troubles. And next to the meadow near the monument are anti-tank fenders.
Back in 1971, a hill was erected near the flower with stone slabs laid on it. In the center of one of them, the words of Tanya Savicheva from her famous diary are carved.
The monument is connected to a green hill by a beautiful Alley of friendship. Trees are planted here by pioneers who came from all over the country to the 4th All-Union Pioneer Rally (July 1970).
The history of the memorial
And a simple and very symbolic monument is "Flower of Life". His photo is very impressive and touches the soul. It was built as a tribute to the children who died during the war in the besieged Leningrad.
Children of that time experienced unbearable difficulties. Despite this, they continued to study. Many of them helped adults: they were on duty along with them on the roofs of houses, put out “lighters”.
Young residents of Leningrad participated in the defense of the city, went to the partisans. Despite their young age and their body not yet strong, their sense of duty was at the highest level.
Children were also the most valuable cargo of the famous "Road of Life". Senior schoolchildren helped adult educators transport kids. The guys were mostly evacuated in the legendary "lorry". It was especially dangerous in winter, when the ice on Lake Ladoga could crack and break at any moment. However, despite everything, the evacuation of children did not stop. Now the only thing that recalls that time, “Flower of Life” is a monument.
