There were times when the name of Korzhakov was well-known, and he was recognized in any corner of the country. Today they forgot about him. Where is Alexander Korzhakov now? Only a few can answer this question. But he continues to work, write books, often recalls the past days. How did the life of Alexander Korzhakov develop?
Childhood and family
Alexander Korzhakov was born on January 31, 1950 in Moscow. Korzhakov Sr. went through two wars: Finnish and World War II. First he worked as a worker, then he became a workshop foreman at the Trekhgorny Manufactory. There he met the mother of Alexander, who was a weaver.
Korzhakovaâs mother, Ekaterina Nikitichna, was born in the ancient village of Molokovo. There, as a boy, Korzhakov spent all his vacations. He still considers Molokovo the best place on Earth, and it was there that he arranged his permanent place of residence.
Alexanderâs childhood was completely ordinary. He went to school on Krasnaya Presnya, went in for sports a lot, and participated in fights more than once. Studying was not his favorite thing. After school, Alexander even made an attempt to study at the institute, but quickly abandoned him.
The beginning of adulthood
After leaving the institute, in 1967, Alexander Korzhakov began working at the Moscow Electromechanical Plant of Memory in 1905 as a locksmith. A year later, he was drafted into the Soviet Army. Thanks to good physical preparation, Korzhakov falls into the so-called Kremlin regiment, i.e., begins to work as a guard. He liked the army, and this predetermined his life choice.
Education
Korzhakov, Alexander Vasilievich, only 7 years after graduation, decided to continue his education and enters the All-Union Correspondence Law Institute, which he graduated in 1980.
Later, already in Yeltsin's time, he defended his thesis on economics.
Service in the KGB
After demobilization in 1970, Alexander Korzhakov entered the Ninth Directorate of the State Security Committee, which protects the highest leaders of the party and state. In 1971, he joined the ranks of the CPSU, was included in the party bureau of his unit. Korzhakov says little about his service of those times, and nothing particularly interesting to the general public then happened in his life. In 1981, he was sent to Afghanistan to participate in hostilities.
Boris Yeltsin in the life of Korzhakov
In 1985, Korzhakov received a new appointment: he became the bodyguard of the first secretary of the Moscow City Committee of the CPSU Boris Yeltsin. This event changed the life of Alexander Vasilyevich. He came quite close to the guarded "facility." So the tandem âAlexander Korzhakov - Boris Yeltsinâ appeared, which participated in many significant events in the life of Russia.
In 1987, when Yeltsin was dismissed for harsh remarks by the authorities, Korzhakov did not leave Boris Nikolaevich and continued to maintain friendly relations with him. For this, in 1989 he was dismissed from the ranks of the KGB, formally according to his "age and state of health", but in fact - for supporting the inconvenient, disgraced Yeltsin. At the same time, Korzhakov was expelled from the ranks of the CPSU, and all this meant the end of his career. But times have changed.
Formally, Korzhakov worked as the head of the security service in the Plastic cooperative, but in reality he continued to guard his friend and former boss B. N. Yeltsin. When Yeltsin was appointed chairman of the USSR Armed Forces Committee on Architecture and Construction, Korzhakov came to work in his structure. In fact, he remained the personal bodyguard of Boris Nikolaevich. In 1990, after Yeltsin became chairman of the USSR Armed Forces, Korzhakov received the post of chief of the Armed Forces security service.

The election of Yeltsin as President of the Russian Federation brought Korzhakov the post of chief of the presidentâs security service and the rank of major general. In this role, Alexander Vasilievich received tremendous power and influence, which he repeatedly used. Opponents accused Korzhakov of his involvement in many dark stories, in particular the murder of V. Listyev, the assassination attempt on B. Berezovsky. During the putsch in 1993, he organized the supply of heavy armored vehicles to the parliament in Moscow, and Korzhakov personally arrested Rutsky and Khasbulatov.
During the 1996 election campaign, Korzhakov entered the campaign headquarters, and then became the first assistant to the president of the Russian Federation, the head of the SBP of the Russian Federation.
On June 20, 1996, there was a huge scandal related to the financing of Yeltsinâs election campaign, the so-called âcurrency case in a photocopy boxâ. The organizer of the fraud was named Alexander Korzhakov. âTop Secretâ - a newspaper whose investigators conducted an investigation, printed a photo of a box with half a million dollars and described a complex chain of people and organizations that locked itself into the head of the Security Service. As a result, overnight, Korzhakov was fired from all posts and lost Yeltsin's confidence.
Deputy Korzhakov
After his dismissal from the Kremlin, Alexander V. Korzhakov made many high-profile statements, tried to speculate with secret information that he owned, he accused Tatyana Yeltsin's daughter of his troubles. But, to his credit, he did not tell any unpleasant information about his former boss. Korzhakov entered into alliances with various politicians, including opposition Alexander Lebed, and sought support.
In 1997, he passes to the State Duma as a deputy from the Tula region. In the Duma, he withstood several convocations, adjoining various factions; in recent years, he has been a member of United Russia. In 2011, Alexander Korzhakov completed his career as a deputy and resigned from big politics.
Korzhakov's books
After dismissal from the team of the President of the Russian Federation, Korzhakov zealously began to write his memoirs. Perhaps at first it was only an attempt to scare Yeltsin, but later all this resulted in a real book. Already in 1997, Korzhakovâs work Boris Yeltsin. From Dawn to Dusk entered the bookstores. In his texts, Alexei Vasilyevich walked hard around Yeltsinâs circle, his family, but he hardly touched the former boss. In 2012, Alexander published a second book about Yeltsinâs entourage, where he again blames the family and close associates of the president for all his might. In numerous interviews, Korzhakov hinted that he knows a lot about the events of the time of Yeltsinâs rule, that all his disclosures are yet to come, but so far he has not dared to make sensational statements.
Awards
Alexander Vasilyevich repeatedly received various awards for his valiant service. He received the Order âFor Personal Courageâ, as well as several medals, including âDefender of a Free Russiaâ, âFor Impeccable Serviceâ, several jubilee awards and a letter of honor from the administration of the Tula Region.

Alexander Korzhakov in his life was twice married. He lived with his first wife Irina for many years, the couple had two daughters - Galina and Natalya. Korzhakov is already a grandfather, the daughter of Natalia had a son, Ivan. Now Alexander is married a second time, his wife's name is Elena.
In private life, Korzhakov is a very calm and unpretentious person. He constantly lives in the village of Molokovo, where he built a temple at his own expense, bought a water pump for the villagers. He loved sports all his life and continues to play tennis today, chasing the ball with his grandson. Korzhakov loves dogs very much, and there were always a few dogs in his house. Today, several dogs of different breeds live on his estate.
In Korzhakovâs life, besides politics, there were other interesting events. So, he acted in films: âBremen Town Musiciansâ, âHeaven and Earthâ, âOnly Youâ. He enjoys watching series on the work of power structures, and in some of them heroes sometimes flash, the prototype of which he himself became.

Alexander Korzhakov, whose books have been sold in rather large editions, continues to write today. He is working on the next volume of memoirs about his participation in the backstage of Russia's big politics, which will be called âNotes of a bent general.â Korzhakov lives a calm village life. Sometimes he advises former colleagues and associates, gives interviews to various media outlets and continues to promise that âsomeday he will tell the whole truthâ, but he makes a reservation that âpeople donât need to know everything.â
