Chokeberry. Contraindications and medicinal properties

Chokeberry (chokeberry) has practical and scientific interest due to the dark purple fruits. Their almost black coloration is due to the extremely high content of phenolic resins, especially anthocyanins (plant colored glycosides). The total content of anthocyanins in the black chokeberry is approximately 1480 mg per 100 g of fresh berries, and the concentration of proanthocyanidin is approximately 664 mg per 100 g of fresh fruits. The healing properties of chokeberry are largely determined by the high content of anthocyanins. These substances (essentially pyrilic salts) can repel pests and protect the plants themselves from infection, they are the strongest antioxidants, and therefore they conquer oxidative stress in the fetus during photosynthesis.

Today it is already known that the amount of antioxidants in chokeberry is significantly higher than in more popular products such as blueberries, cranberries and blackberries. The growing interest in this culture is explained by the desire to increase (from various sources of plant life, such as berries and soft fruits, citrus fruits, vegetables, grains and spices) the set of foods rich in antioxidants. Chokeberry fruits, as a source of antioxidants, have exceptional properties and are becoming popular. It has been established that beneficial substances, such as cyanidin-3-galactoside, epicatechin, caffeic acid, quercetin, dolphinidin, petunidin, pelargonidin, peonidin and malvidin, contain black rowan. Its useful properties are due to these substances, which, being phenolic antioxidants, belong to flavonoids.

When eating the fruits of this wonderful plant, the risk of cell damage due to oxidation is reduced, and as a result, diseases caused by oxidative stress are prevented. Among them: colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic inflammation, inflammation of the choroid (uveitis), liver failure. Almost half of all vitamins contains aronia. Contraindications, about which there is some information, are not comparable with the benefit. The berry is rich in vitamins A, C, P, group B (B9, B6, B2), vitamin E, beta-carotene, anthocyanins, tannins. In addition to vitamins, it provides additional minerals and essential elements, especially potassium, calcium, iron, manganese, molybdenum, iodine and phosphorus.

Of particular interest in terms of health benefits is chokeberry juice. It contains five to ten times more anthocyanins and flavonoids than cranberry, blueberry and blackberry juices. In addition, chokeberry juice contains more nutrients such as antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals. According to some experts, he is able to effectively help in the fight against cancer and heart disease. The ripe fruits of Chokeberry contain a large amount of phenols, tannins, flavonoids and anthocyanins. Flavonoids, which contain chokeberry, can protect the cell from cancerous degeneration. Contraindications described in some sources report a danger of increasing blood viscosity, but this is refuted by other data.

Phenols disinfect the blood, promote wound healing, remove toxic substances from the body, reduce inflammation and too high blood pressure, improve the elasticity of blood vessels, and prevent them from clogging. Aronia (due to the ability to remove heavy metals from the body) is indicated for patients suffering from cancer, as well as for those who have undergone surgery or a complex disease. A large amount of carotene contains aronia. Contraindications, which indicate the ability of substances contained in the fruits of chokeberry to cause thrombosis, are also disputed today.

It is known that juice or chokeberry tea is recommended for any problem with the circulatory system and blood pressure. They are especially useful for inflammatory kidney diseases, ulcers, diabetes, migraines, internal bleeding, and anemia. Chokeberry has a great effect on liver function and bile secretion, helps to neutralize harmful substances in the liver and restore impaired functions. With inflammation of the gallbladder, bile ducts and jaundice, chokeberry also helps. Contraindications are associated with gastritis and peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, therefore (due to the high content of organic acids) it should be used carefully, be sure to consult a doctor and without exacerbations.
