Wheel rim

In our realities, with an abundance of pits on the roads, the drivers were faced with a difficult task: to keep the car rims safe and sound. Here a lot depends on the skill and skill of the driver to go around these "dangerous objects". But be that as it may, almost every one of them eventually becomes a regular in a car repair shop.

To exclude this, it is necessary to correctly select auto drives. The manufacturer, when releasing the machine, equips it with rims of a nominal size. They are created from appropriate materials tested under certain conditions.

The selection of rims is carried out not only for aesthetic reasons. It is important to understand which wheels are better, alloy or forged. Wheel rim bolt must also be matched to the make of the car. Remember about the departure of the wheel, you should be prepared for all the surprises that can give a motorist a trip on our imperfect roads.

There are many important requirements for rims. They should be light and durable, as they perceive variable loads. Drives must be hard to support the mass of the car. In addition, to prevent runout, the rims must be properly balanced.

There are many reasons for choosing steel, alloy or forged wheels. Of course, the former received the widest application in view of their relatively low cost and the possibility of straightening, since they do not burst upon impact. Alloy wheels are attractive primarily because of their low weight, but they are corrosion-resistant and even when using special coatings are subject to external factors. Forged wheels are very durable and hard. Crumple, do not burst, do not need additional protection. When deformed, they can always be repaired.

When choosing, you should pay attention to such a thing as wheel bolt pattern, which has the abbreviation PCD. This, in fact, is the diameter of the circumference of the holes for bolts or studs for attaching the wheel to the hub. This is a very important point! But not everyone pays attention to him. For example, if the wheel alignment for a specific car is not taken into account, the wheel will be installed off-axis, and at the same time it will not be tightened by the necessary tightening torque. The danger lies in the fact that you may not see the visual differences. When driving, a wheel with such a disc will pose a security risk. Increased runout, over time, will destroy the details of the suspension, steering mechanism. Or, even worse, the wheel will simply unscrew when driving with all the ensuing consequences.

In order not to make a mistake in choosing a disk relative to the wheel arch, check the wheel overhang. In simple terms, this is the distance from the hub (bolt pattern of the discs) to the longitudinal line, if you look at the disc from the end. Departure is measured in millimeters. Be extremely careful. Departure of a wheel can be negative and positive. The difference is that when negative, most of the disk protrudes outward and can rest against the wheel arch when turning. A positive take-off β€œsits” the drive to a greater degree inward. Moreover, if it is not selected correctly, you can simply not install it, since the suspension parts will not allow this.

If the hub size turned out to be slightly larger when buying disks (as often happens on universal disks in car dealerships), then adapters must be bought for them.

Do you want to transform your car? Make it unique? Feel free to change discs. Keep in mind that wheel blading is an important technical concept! Measure, install. If something does not fit, do not force it. Technique does not like this! No matter how beautiful rims attract you, remember that safety and comfort are more expensive.
