The modern market for building materials is filled with paints and varnishes, for the dilution of which special solvents and thinners are needed. In composition, they are organic and inorganic, and in terms of evaporation rate, they are fast, universal, and slow. Each species is designed to perform different functions. Among them, the R-4 brand solvent stands out for its versatility. It is an indispensable material when performing painting work, since it helps to increase the solubility of paints and varnishes.
Purpose and composition of the material
The R-4 solvent is intended for dilution of paints and varnishes made on the basis of copolymers of vinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and epoxy resins. It refers to complex solutions, since it contains more than two components. The solvent consists of volatile organic substances such as butyl acetate - 12%, acetone - 26%, toluene - 62%.
In the manufacture of this tool, modern technologies and equipment are used that provide it with high quality. Solvent P-4 due to its properties significantly speeds up the mixing process. Its use makes it possible in a short time to obtain a uniform paint, completely ready for use.
Solvent Specifications
In appearance, the solvent R-4 is a clear, colorless or yellowish color, as well as a specific odor liquid. In it, the mass fraction of water is 0.7%; acid number does not exceed 0.07 mg KOH / g; flash point - 7 Β° C; the coagulation number is 24%; autoignition temperature - 550 Β° C.
Universal solvent R-4, the technical characteristics of which allow it to be used to work with many varnishes and enamels, is most in demand among consumers. The combination of the three components included in the composition effectively affects the thickness of the paintwork products to working viscosity.
Application
To dilute the varnishes and paints used in the decoration of the premises, as well as for the preparation of surfaces, R-4 solvent is used. Paints and varnishes are applied to the surface in a uniform layer, therefore, they should not contain lumps that delaminate when dried. To bring them to the required consistency, the solvent is added to enamels, primers, putties in small portions, while thoroughly mixing. Cleaning surfaces from grease stains and old impurities is carried out with rags soaked in a solution. It evaporates, the resulting film hardens and becomes a protective coating for the treated surface.
Adding solvent R-4 to paintwork products, the price of which for 1 liter is 90 rubles, you reduce their consumption and increase the possibility of processing a larger surface area. The mixing standards recommended by the manufacturer are indicated on the solution packaging. The R-4 solvent, the technical characteristics of which are quite high, is suitable for the dilution of enamels -124 of gray and protective color. Also, this material can be used to dilute such mixtures:
- compositions OS 51 03, 12 03;
- Enamel "Evinal 28"; Winikolor; EP 140, 439; "Vinicor 62"; XB 518, 125, 714, 1120; Evikor;
- primers XC 04, 062, 059, 077; "Vinicor 061"; EP 0263, 0103, 0508, 0259;
- varnishes of grades 76, , 724, 784;
- putties EP 0020, XB 005.
Security measures
Solvent P-4 is a liquid with strong irritating effects on the skin, mucous membranes of the organs of vision and respiration. It is toxic, flammable and even explosive. The R-4 solvent is highly volatile and belongs to hazard class 3 . When working with it, you should follow some precautions.
Work using this material should be in rooms with a supply and exhaust ventilation, away from open flame, at a temperature of +5 ... + 30ΒΊ, and also with a relative humidity of 85%. When using a solvent, do not smoke. This substance is explosive in contact with oxidizing agents such as acetic and nitric acids, hydrogen peroxide, as well as chloroform and bromoform.
This material is toxic. During evaporation, it very quickly pollutes the air, which can cause serious damage to human health. To protect the respiratory system, use a respirator. In case of contact with hands or other places, the solvent should be washed off with water.
Storage
The R-4 solvent is a fire hazardous and toxic substance, therefore it must be stored in a securely closed container, away from heating appliances, foodstuffs, electrical devices, out of the reach of children, and also to prevent sunlight. It is delivered to the distribution network in containers made of materials resistant to its components. The room where the solvent is stored should not be flammable. The shelf life from the date of manufacture is 12 months.
