Childhood is a wonderful time! And how important it is not only to be able to keep your “inner child” intact until old age, but also to understand how to interact with children, taking into account the peculiarities of their age and psychology. This and much more is taught at the Institute of Childhood of the Moscow State Pedagogical University - an excellent university, which is described in more detail in our material.
Briefly about the Moscow Pedagogical
Before getting acquainted with the Institute of Childhood, which is a division of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, it would be logical to say just a few words about this university itself, which has been “living” in the world for more than a hundred years. Its history began back in the seventies of the century before last, when Higher Women's Courses were organized in Moscow. It was they who became the first educational institution for women of any social status in our country. At the beginning of the twentieth century, one of the professors of women’s courses, which had already received the status of a state institution by that time, was Vladimir Vernadsky (he was supposed to be their leader, but, as they say, did not grow together). In this regard, it is not surprising that it is now on Vernadsky Avenue in Moscow that the Moscow State Pedagogical University is located, however, we will not get ahead of ourselves and will talk about the university address later.

In addition to Vernadsky, many more outstanding personalities are associated with the aforementioned organization - Sergey Chaplygin, and Vasily Klyuchevsky, and Ivan Tsvetaev (father of the poetess Marina Tsvetaeva), and Nikolai Koltsov - and many other glorious names.
A new stage in the life of the Higher Women's Courses began in 1918, when they were transformed into the Second Moscow State University. Then he totaled only three faculties: physical and mathematical, medical and historical-philological. However, after three years, the Faculty of Education appeared, after which others began to arise. And in 1930, as many as three independent ones were formed from the Second Moscow University. One of them, created on the basis of the Faculty of Education, was just the same Moscow State Pedagogical University - Moscow State Pedagogical University. True, at that time it was not yet a university, but an institute (the MPGI received the proud title of university only at the end of the twentieth century - in 1990, becoming the first pedagogical university not only in Russia but throughout the world).

After a couple of decades, the university grew - defectological, industrial-pedagogical, as well as urban pedagogical institutes were added to it. During its existence, the university experienced many difficulties, especially in the nineties of the last century, when in almost all sectors there was an acute shortage of finance. It was hard to stay afloat, but the Moscow State Pedagogical University survived - and not just survived, but became one of the best universities in the country. He continues to remain to this day.
Institute of Childhood
So, let's continue. The department of the Pedagogical University on Vernadsky Prospekt in Moscow, devoted to childhood, is quite young - it only took him the fifth year. Although the Institute of Childhood was founded not at all from scratch - it was reorganized from two ancient faculties of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, primary and defectological. Therefore, if we consider the question of the years of the "life" of the department from this point of view, then his age is quite respectable.
Now, as part of this new unit in the structure of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, there are more than a dozen departments of both defectological and initial profiles - and not only. Their common goal is the desire to teach students how to properly interact with a child at all stages of his development, taking care of the fragile world of childhood. Next, we will talk about the work of the Institute of Childhood at Moscow State Pedagogical University in more detail.
Faculties
As mentioned above, the Institute of Childhood took shape from a combination of two faculties of a pedagogical university. These same faculties remained in the structure of the new department. We will get to know each of them individually.
Defectological
The defectological faculty of Moscow State Pedagogical University will turn 100 years old next year. He grew out of special medical and defectology courses founded at Moscow State Pedagogical University because of the need to study the causes of defectiveness and teach new pedagogical staff. At that time Vsevolod Kashchenko, whose brother Peter is the most famous representative of this family name, was in charge of these courses.
Later, defectology courses were transformed into the department of pedology (one of the areas in pedagogy) and defectology at the pedagogical faculty at that time of the Second Moscow University, and a few years later (to be more precise, in 1934) an independent faculty of defectology appeared, acting and to this day.
Who can work after the end of this direction? The range of professions is not too extensive, but there is a choice. This is a teacher or defectologist, teacher, employee in the field of health care and further education. It is important that all these people help children with developmental delays and adaptations to adapt to life in society, to cope with their problems and difficulties.
Departments of the Faculty of Defectology
In total, there are six departments in the aforementioned department of the Institute of Childhood of the Moscow State Pedagogical University: oligophrenopedagogy, inclusive education, typhlopedagogy, preschool defectology, speech therapy and the clinical foundations of defectology. Briefly go over each of them.
The Department of Oligophrenopedagogy is exploring the possibility of using special education techniques in children with developmental disorders; its teachers share with students their knowledge on how to organize the educational and educational process in order to correct mental retardation, talk about the nature of this disease.
The Department of Inclusive Education also deals in signopedagogy - that is, problems devoted to the training of people with hearing impairments. How to communicate with such children, how to introduce them to society and train them within the framework of inclusive education (that is, aimed at children and implying a flexible methodology that meets different goals and needs) is the subject of interest in this department.
What is speech therapy, as well as preschool defectology (developmental delays in young children), we must assume, is clear to everyone, and we will not dwell on this. But the concept of typhlopedagogy is not familiar to everyone; meanwhile, this is teaching to the blind, and this is what the work at the department of the same name is devoted to. Finally, the department of the clinical foundations of defectology with doctors and biologists as employees is studying an integrated approach through medicine and psychology to the anatomical and physiological characteristics of people with developmental disabilities and is developing ways to overcome these difficulties.
Elementary faculty
The Faculty of Primary Education, a year younger than its defectological counterpart. As you might guess, specialists are trained here to work with children of primary school age. The faculty also has six departments, more about them later in more detail.
Departments of the elementary faculty
The Faculty of Primary Education has the following units: the Russian language and its teaching methods, mathematics and computer science, foreign languages, psychology of primary school children, research and creative activities, as well as the theory and practice of primary education. And if the essence and meaning of the work of the first three departments is clear, then the last three should be clarified.
The department of psychology of a primary school student will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary in three years. It employs specialists who work to determine the psychological portrait of a primary school student and how to approach each child individually. The interest spectrum of the department is multifaceted. Here they study the development of the imagination of children and the pedagogical competencies of teachers, the abilities of schoolchildren and the personal meanings of learning - and much more.

The department of research and creative work has three areas - natural science, technology (they are also works) and fine art. According to them, research and scientific activities are being conducted. The last department, the theory and practice of education, deals with rather versatile issues. They study how to improve the training of a future teacher, how to develop meta-subject results, how to properly educate a younger student, how to correctly introduce the latest developments - and so on and so forth.
Other structural units
In addition to the two faculties, the Institute of Childhood includes two general departments and the Center for Psychological and Pedagogical Support of Special Students (with disabilities). One of the departments is engaged in information technologies in education, the second - in psychological anthropology.
