VAZ-2107 steering tips: how to make a DIY replacement

When replacing the steering tips of the VAZ-2107, you must follow the rules - immediately install a couple of elements and after the end adjust the wheel alignment. Without this, the operation of the car is impossible - tire tread wear will occur faster. It turns out that the wheels in the wrong convergence are directed in different directions - when driving at low speed this is invisible, but when accelerating, the car may be pulled to the left or right. And this affects not only the convenience of driving, but also on safety - the car can be dragged away to the side, which will create an emergency.

Steering Features

The entire steering structure on the sevens and other cars of the "classic" series consists of the following elements:

1. Steering shaft. And it was precisely on the sevens that the injury-proof was used for the first time - with a cross. When hitting the forehead, the shaft was folded into two parts. On earlier models of cars this was not so, therefore, during an accident, it was possible to damage the chest.
2. Pendulum lever - an element mounted on the right side of the car, designed to transmit movement from the central thrust to the short end.
3. Steering gear - a special mechanism based on a worm gear. It converts rotational motion into translational motion.
4. Three thrusts - two steering tips of the VAZ-2107, which can be adjusted in length, and a central one.

All thrusts consist of two ball elements, namely they allow the entire mechanism to move freely.

Signs of damage to steering rods VAZ-2107

It is very easy to determine the malfunction of the steering - when driving, extraneous sounds will certainly appear. Along with this, the steering wheel play will increase significantly. But you will definitely need to make a diagnosis of the entire control to make sure that it is broken. Backlash and knocks also appear during the destruction of other elements of the front suspension - ball, bushings, wheel bearing, shock absorber.

Therefore, you need to follow simple steps:

1. Install the vehicle on a flyover, inspection hole or lift.
2. Perform a visual inspection of the entire steering. Pay special attention to the condition of the anthers - if they become unusable, you will need to change the steering tips of the VAZ-2107. The price of one tip will be about 300 rubles. But there are four of them, so if you plan to change everything, buy as an assembly.
3. Using the mounting blade, measure the play in the ball joints. If it is too large, you will need to replace one or more elements.

As for the choice of the manufacturer, it is not worth overpaying for imported items. Among domestic there are many good manufacturers that produce high-quality and inexpensive items. For example, the plants TRACK and BZAK, many motorists prefer them.

Tools for repair

Before starting repairs, you will need to prepare such a tool:

1. Jack.
2. Wheel chocks.
3. Supports under the car.
4. Set of wrenches.
5. Pliers.
6. Stripper of steering tips VAZ-2107.

Please note that you need to use the puller specifically for cars of the "classic" series or universal.

Those tools that are designed for nines and similar models are not suitable. If there is no puller, then you can try to knock out the tips, but this will be problematic.

Repair Preparation

At the stage of preparation for the replacement, you need to do the following:

1. Install the vehicle on a lift, overpass, or viewing hole. If there are no such amenities, you will have to raise the side of the machine and hang it. If you make repairs on the pit, then a jack is not required, just fix the car using the wheel chocks.
2. Treat all threaded connections with penetrating grease - this way you will ease your work.
3. Prepare tools and spare parts.

Ideally, replace the entire trapezoid. Backlash can appear not only when the VAZ-2107 steering rod ends are worn, but also when the middle, pendulum arm and even gearbox are destroyed.

Tip Replacement

To replace the steering tips, you need to perform the following manipulations:

1. Remove the cotter pins from the holes in the finger tips. They must first be straightened with pliers.
2. Unscrew the nuts from the fingers of the steering tips of the VAZ-2107.
3. Install the puller and remove your fingers one at a time.
4. Measure the length of all traction.
5. Loosen the clamps and ensure that the length of the new rod is exactly the same - screw in or out the tips. Then tighten the clamps.
6. Establish draft and tighten nuts, fix them with cotter pins.
7. Adjust the camber and toe-in.

If you measure the length of the old traction and set a new one with exactly the same dimensions, this does not guarantee that the toe will be correct. Correction should be carried out approximately every 10-15 thousand km and there is no guarantee that the convergence was perfect on old links. Therefore, to avoid early wear of the rubber, be sure to make the setting.
