Even in peacetime, many boys dream of becoming military. Fortunately, relevant educational institutions across the country - a dime a dozen. Here in Penza, for example, there is a wonderful school - the Penza Higher Artillery Engineering. What faculties and specialties are there, how to get into this institution, what are its features and history, we tell further.
History of the school
The story of the birth of PVAIU them. Voronova (that was once the official name of the school; however, we will not get ahead of ourselves) has its roots in the distant war years. It was then, in the days of bloody battles with the Nazi army, there was an acute shortage of senior personnel. Artillery officers were needed, and therefore, in the summer of 1943, by order of the People’s Commissar of Defense of the Soviet Union, the Penza Artillery School appeared among the educational institutions of our country.

True, initially it was not Penza, but Tula, since by order it was stationed in Tula; and it was not called a school at all, but the Higher Officer Artillery and Technical School. However, after three years, during which three graduations of young officers took place, the school was transferred to Penza, where it took root, and later was renamed the school. However, this did not happen right away, but only thirteen years after the formation of the educational institution in 1958. Until then, the future Penza Artillery School of the Order of the Red Star withstood a lot of perturbations with the name - it was courses for improving officers, and just artillery-technical courses and much more. In 1968, the school was named after the chief marshal-artilleryman in the country, Nikolai Voronov - that year he died. So, finally, the educational institution acquired a name that had been held for several decades.

From the very beginning, the training of future artillery officers at the Penza school was carried out at five faculties: three main, one special secondary and correspondence. In addition, the officers were retrained and the officers who had already received secondary specialized military education were trained through external studies.
The nineties
From the end of the eighties of the last century, the Penza Artillery School again began to relate to one or the other changes. Recruitment to the correspondence department ceased, they ceased to train personnel with the help of an external studies ... And then the school was completely abolished, renaming it an artillery institute. The institution also lost its honorary "tail" in honor of Nikolai Voronov. On this, the wave of changes temporarily ended, but the new century was on the verge, and with it the next transformations ...
In the twenty first century
In less than nineteen years of the new millennium, a lot has happened with the former Penza Artillery School, and now the PAII (Artillery and Engineering Institute). In 2002, the name of Voronov was returned to him, and seven years later he was introduced as a separate institution into the military training and scientific center of the ground forces - thus, his "life path" as an independent educational institution ended.
However, the PAII also did not stay in the aforementioned institution for long - next year (that is, in 2010) it was made a branch of this center. Two years later (2012 was in the yard), the former Penza Artillery became a branch of the Military Academy of Logistics, which is located in St. Petersburg - PAII VA MTO. This is at the moment the official name of yesterday’s school; however, the IA MTO is allowed to drop.
Today, former students of the PAII, which celebrated its seventy-fifth anniversary last year, are in high positions both in their native Penza and in other cities of the country. Among them there are people of science - professors, associate professors, candidates, and people of military affairs - including those who have been promoted to generals. In all, up to the present moment, over all the years of its existence, more than seventeen thousand new officers have been released from the former Penza Artillery School, who speak extremely positively of their native alma mater.
Education in PAI
Penza artillery prepares graduates both in the profile of higher education, and in the profile of secondary and primary. And if specialists in higher education can claim only one area of study, then the secondary has three, and the primary one has thirteen. At the exit, having received primary education, you can become a master (it will take only three months to spend for this); with an average status increases to a technician (training time two years ten months); finally, graduates with higher education are qualified as engineers or specialists. As in any other university, it will take five years to study. Over the past few years, the competition in the PAI has been at least three people in place.
In the former Penza Artillery School there are also continuing education and retraining courses, the latter being carried out not only in military specialties, but also in civilian ones - for those military personnel whose service life is coming to an end. And among the specialties of the Penza Artillery School, according to his own boss, the direction “Operation of missile and artillery weapons” is most attractive.
Briefly about the features of training
Like the St. Petersburg university itself, its Penza branch "supplies" to the professional market military specialists in missile and artillery weapons and their operation, in repairing artillery devices, small arms, all kinds of controls and so on. The emphasis in training is, of course, on the military component. A lot of time is devoted to practical development of skills. The latter includes tactical exercises with shooting, and real combat shooting, and much more. The cadets even throw grenades - fortunately, for these purposes both shooting ranges and a training ground are equipped on the territory of the former school.
At the final stage of training, each student must undergo an internship. It is organized in various units and formations of the Armed Forces of our country. But even before graduation, in the process of studying, repair practice awaits cadets. They are usually held at different bases and factories of the Russian defense complex.
By the way, the Penza artillery has another interesting feature: this branch of the St. Petersburg Academy has been teaching foreigners for more than half a century. Over the past years, more than three thousand military specialists from abroad have been trained - more precisely, from as many as thirty-two countries.
Characteristics of the educational institution
The main "educational unit" in the former Penza Artillery School are not faculties, but departments. It is on them that students are distributed. In the departments there are not only teachers and books, because the institution is military: each department has its own weapons. According to the head of the PAII (we will return to him a little later), this branch of the St. Petersburg university has almost three and a half thousand weapons of various kinds.
There are only sixteen departments in the former Penza Artillery School, they are located in nineteen educational buildings of the institution. If we continue to talk about PAII in numbers, it should be noted that the aforementioned buildings contain 163 specialized classes, 25 lecture halls, 29 computer rooms plus an Internet room, 26 laboratories, 8 training rooms for design, a large reading room.
Management and specialists
Among the teachers of the Penza branch of the St. Petersburg University there are, of course, military experts — because the educational institution is specialized — as well as ordinary teachers and scientists. Among the latter - more than one hundred and forty people, which is three quarters of the total number of teaching staff. Among them there are "ordinary" teachers, there are associate professors and even candidates of sciences. As for the military educators, among them there are also participants in various armed actions - they pass on their experience to the cadets. However, the chief of the Penza Artillery School is now of great interest - who can manage such a brainchild that invariably receives awards from the senior management for the work done?
This person is Major General Alexander Tsaplyuk. He was born in 1965 - he is only a little over fifty. First he graduated from the Khmelnitsky Artillery School, then - the corresponding academy in Mariupol. On the way to the rank of major general and the post of head of the school, he went through many other statuses and posts - he was the commander of the division, the head of the training center, the deputy commander of the missile forces and artillery - and this is far from all. Alexander Tsaplyuk has many awards, and he is not only a professional and a good leader, but also an exemplary family man - he has a wife and daughter.
PAII faculties
There are four faculties in the structure of the former Penza Artillery School: missile and artillery armaments - once, ammunition - two, radio engineering means - three, and a special faculty - four. It is precisely on the latter that future military specialists from foreign countries are trained. In order to make it easier for cadets arriving from abroad, the first year they are actively studying with them at the Russian language department - there is one in the PAII and one specially organized for this department. Students master the subtleties of the language itself, as well as the basic terminology, after which they can already proceed directly to the chosen course. This faculty has been operating since 1959, and a year earlier the direction on missile and artillery weapons was opened - since at that moment new personnel were required for the missile units. Perhaps this will seem strange to someone, but the main attention in all the specialties of this faculty is paid not to anything, but to drill; it is these cadets who take an active part in all kinds of drill events, including in the Victory Parade.

As for the Faculty of Ammunition, as you can already guess from its name alone, cadets get information there on how to properly handle ammunition, as well as various devices and artillery weapons, gunpowder, explosives, and so on.
A bit about the departments
As mentioned earlier, there are as many as sixteen departments at the Penza branch of the Leningrad Military Academy, and it is impossible to talk about each of them within the framework of one material. We confine ourselves to mentioning a few of the most, in our opinion, interesting ones.
This is the department of tactics, the main task of which is to convey to the cadets all the fundamentals of not only tactical combat, but also the principles of work of all artillery service bodies. It is here that the details of various exercises and field exits are developed, they give knowledge about the basics of combat support and types of protection in both wartime and peacetime.
Another important department of the former Penza Artillery School is the department of general scientific disciplines, where they teach basic subjects for an engineer - after all, it is engineers, as we remember, who become PAII graduates. These are higher mathematics, descriptive geometry, engineering graphics, physics, theoretical mechanics and other, no less important, disciplines.
Let’s also say a half-word about a relatively new department (unlike many others that appeared with the birth of the school, it was formed only in 2000) - department management. Its main purpose is to train cadets in the management of artillery units in peacetime.
How to proceed
How to enter the Penza artillery school? This is nothing complicated. It is necessary that several rules are observed:
- Upon admission to full training: age from sixteen to twenty-two (without military service); age up to twenty four (with military service); the presence of secondary general education.
- Upon admission to secondary training: age up to thirty; the presence of secondary general education.
- Previously, everyone needs to go through a professional selection.
If the selection is passed, you must provide the necessary documents to the selection committee before April of this year. You can find out exactly what is required on the website of the educational institution.
Penza Artillery School: address
There are situations when you need to contact the school by mail. In such cases (and also, of course, in order to know where to go), the address of the institution is required. And first of all, it is important to remember the Penza index: there are cases when addressees are faced with the fact that they just do not know the index. It is simple for the PAII: 440005. But apart from the Penza index, by and large, you don’t need to do anything else, because the whole address looks like this: 440005, Penza-5, Military Town, Penza Artillery Engineering Institute.
This is information about the former Penza School, now PAI, the pride and hope of the entire Penza District.
