In this article, you can get an explanation that the GPU in the computer is a graphics processor, or, as many people say, a video card. It can be built-in or discrete. Depending on the type of card, you can choose the necessary cooling and decent nutrition.
Integrated GPU
The integrated graphics card is located on the motherboard or in the processor. The fact that this is a GPU in a computer does not mean that you need to run demanding games or movies in high quality. The fact is that video cards of this type are designed to work with simple applications that do not require large resources. In addition, they do not consume a large amount of energy.
As for the amount of memory, the integrated GPU in the computer uses the amount and frequency of RAM to work.
Most users use cards of this type only to install drivers on a discrete graphics card.
Discrete GPU
Discrete view of the GPU in a computer - what is it? Unlike the integrated graphics processor, discrete graphics cards are a separate module, which consists of the processor itself, several heatsinks, cooling coolers, memory chips, condensers, and in case of increased power, water cooling.
Such video cards can be both gaming and office. For example, the manufacturer Invidia, they differ in series of output. Here the GT630 is an office model, and the GTX660 is called a gaming one. The first digit indicates the generation of the GPU, and the next two indicate the series. Numbering to the 50th series means that the equipment is office equipment, and from 50 to 90 are playing cards. Moreover, the larger the number, the more productive the chip is used in the video card. The prefix in the form of the letter "X" means the presentation to the game category, since such video cards have overclocking potential. They also need a separate additional food, because their resources consume a lot of energy. Now there is a general idea that this is the GPU in the computer.
As regards the cards of the manufacturer Radeon, then their identification system is very simple. In a four-digit system, the first digit is responsible for the generation, the second is for the series, and the last two digits indicate the sequence of the model. They are responsible for the difference between office and discrete representatives.
Normal GPU temperature in the computer
For normal operation, the processor must maintain the optimum temperature, and for each component it has its own. As for the GPU, its operating temperature usually does not exceed 65 degrees. The chip can withstand heating up to 90 degrees, but it is better not to allow this, otherwise the components of the video chip are destroyed.
Several components of the video card are responsible for the normal temperature - this is thermal grease, coolers, radiators and a power system.
Thermal grease needs to be changed regularly, since over time it hardens and loses its cooling function. Replacing it does not take much time - just remove the remnants of the old paste and carefully apply a new one.
Another way to lower the temperature of the GPU in the computer is a competent choice of coolers. Any gaming video card is equipped with coolers from one to three pieces. The more fans, the better the radiators will cool. As for office representatives, manufacturers place on the boards basically only radiators or one cooler.
Power for GPU
Built-in GPUs do not need additional power, but discrete representatives require a more powerful power supply. Office graphics cards will function normally with a block of 450 watts. For removable graphics accelerators, a power supply of more than 500 watts is required. With its competent selection, you can fully reveal the potential of the video card. Moreover, the cooling system of a discrete video card will function better with a sufficient amount of electricity.
Nutrition plays an important role. Without a graphics acceleration processor, it is not possible to display an image on the screen. To see how the video card is displayed in the system, just go to the control panel and open the "Video Adapters" tab. If the message "Device is not recognized" is displayed, then you need to install drivers for your GPU. After installing the drivers, the card model will be correctly displayed in the system.
