Daniel Stolpnik

The monastery was built in memory of the Monk Daniil Stolpnik, the holy heavenly patron of Grand Duke Daniil Alexandrovich. In order to ensure the normal existence of the monastery, several peasant residential yards and households were located nearby, which were originally called the village of Danilovsky. Over time, this area expanded significantly and was transformed into Danilovskaya Sloboda, which ran along the Moskva River.

Prince Daniel at one time accepted monasticism, lived in the monastery he had built, where he introduced himself to the Lord and was buried in 1303.

Omission

When the construction of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior was completed in the Moscow Kremlin, in 1330 Prince Ivan Kalita resettled most of the monks from the Danilovsky Monastery. From this moment the monastery was empty and dilapidated, it was time for oblivion. The temple of Daniel Stolpnik became a parish (earlier it belonged to the monastery), and over time a cemetery formed around it. According to legend, once Tsar Ivan the Terrible had a wonderful vision - Daniel Alexandrovich himself appeared to him. After this event, the king began to rebuild the monastery. In 1560, he was ready, however, located a little north of the former place.

Church Renewal

In 1699, wealthy parishioner Vasiliev Fedor allocated funds for the construction of a new church . In 1722, the main throne in honor of the holy husband of Daniel the Stolpnik was no longer listed, since he was consecrated in honor of the revival of the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord in Jerusalem by Saints Constantine and Elena in 355. From here came its name - the Resurrection of the Word, which contains the idea of the triumph of the revival of holy places revered by Orthodox Christians. The remaining three limits were consecrated in honor of the revered Hebrew prophet St. Elijah, the apostles-evangelists Peter and Paul, St. Nicholas the Ugodnik.

New challenges

The existing Church of the Resurrection of the Word in the Danilov settlement was rebuilt by 1837. The funds for its construction were allocated by the owner of the Danilovsk Manufactory I.N. Rybnikov according to the project of F.M.Shestakov.

The style of the structure is determined by the late Empire, in which the symmetrical axial composition prevails. The bulk of the buildings are made in the form of massive cubes. The north and south sides of the temple are decorated with six-column ionic porticoes and a dome with a high light rotunda. The refectory is located to the west, and a three-tier bell tower rises above the main entrance.

In addition to three limits, a fourth was added to the refectory - in honor of St. John Chrysostom. In the summer of 1845, a women's almshouse, consisting of 12 nuns, and a parish school were opened here.
