MFP repair. Service centers

Multifunctional devices are sophisticated digital mechanisms for printing information, receiving prints of media and their digital copies. 3-in-1 devices are fairly tightly integrated into modern life because of their convenience and good performance. Naturally, they are subject to various breakdowns - a large number of mechanisms and parts implies the presence of many malfunctions.

Of course, with the necessary spare parts and the right approach to repairing the MFPs, most service centers can deal with breakdowns.

Frequent malfunctions of the MFP

To begin, consider a few basic faults:

  • the device does not turn on;
  • Xerox issues a white sheet;
  • paper stop (jam) inside;
  • a rattle is heard when printing;
  • does not work in copier and scanner mode;
  • the printed image is smeared;
  • the printer does not pick up paper;
  • I can’t install the driver;
  • the computer "does not see" the device.

We will deal with the causes and methods of eliminating some malfunctions, as well as the features of the MFP repair by the master of the service center.

MFP does not turn on

Repair of the Epson Stylus TX117 MFP, in which the screen does not light up when power is applied. Also, there is no reaction to button presses. Possible causes of the malfunction may be the power supply or a short circuit in any of the nodes.

First, we diagnose the device. We set the power toggle switch to the off position and wait at least 30 seconds. We turn on the device not through a surge protector, but directly into a wall outlet. Next, we proceed step by step and after each point we turn on the device:

  • we remove cartridges / inkwells;
  • remove the print head.

Before each action, turn off the power and press the power button to discharge the capacitor in the power supply, so as not to aggravate the situation and not to burn any module.

  • We check if the contact pads of the carriage are filled with ink. This may cause a short circuit.
  • We measure the voltage of the control board, after disconnecting the connector.
  • We disconnect all the plugs and loops from the control board, leaving only the control unit cable with the power button and the power supply connector.
  • If the device turns on, but produces any errors, then the problem is in one of the modules.
  • In turn, we connect all the connectors and loops to detect a faulty module.
  • When the device does not turn on after connecting the next connector, the defective module that is connected last is detected.
  • More often than not, a short circuit is detected in the carriage or paper feed motors.

HP MFP Repair

After the defective part, mechanism or module is identified, we replace or repair the defect.

Xerox issues a white sheet

Consider the repair of the HP LJ M1132 MFP, which when you copy and scan gives you clean sheets.

First, start the copy mode with the scanner cover open. When the scanner line reaches approximately to the middle of the glass, remove the power cord from the connector. After the line stops, we wait 5-7 seconds and reconnect the device power. When the ruler returns to the home position, put the sheet on the tablet and start the copier mode. The copy has turned out.

Another option in the event of this malfunction is to clean the device’s memory. To do this, turn off the device, press and hold the down arrow and cancel buttons simultaneously. Without releasing the buttons, turn on the device. Checking the scanner - everything works.

Stop (paper jam)

Consider the repair of the Canon MF4018 i-SENSYS MFP, which displays a “Paper Jam” message on the screen, and the sheet does not come out immediately, but after several missing copies. Typically, the problem is one of the paper jam sensors. It either came out of the mounting grooves by forcibly removing the jammed paper, or the sensor spring was lost.

It is necessary to disassemble the device and carefully inspect the sensors. First, inspect the part below, for malfunctions. When examining two sensors that are in the stove, a flying spring of the right sensor was discovered.

Since with this breakdown, the problem can be in any jam sensor - we examine them all, check the fastenings and the presence of springs.

A rattle is heard when printing

Consider the repair of Samsung SCX-4500 MFPs, when a loud crack and rattle are heard when turned on.

First you need to exclude the option of jamming the cartridge. To do this, take it out and check the operation of the device. The crack did not disappear.

Most likely, the problem is the stove. Disconnect the device from power and disassemble it to remove the part. A malfunction was discovered - the fusing unit on the stove, transfer gears and fixing gears had exhausted their life. Their replacement is necessary.

Repair MFP Epson

The printer does not pick up or feed paper.

How do I repair an HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf MFP that does not feed loaded paper and a paper out message appears on the control panel? The problem may be in the paper pick roller. But in some cases, the problem can be solved by resetting the device.

To do this, on the back panel of the device connected to the network, remove the power cable from the connector. Then remove the cable from the outlet. We are waiting 15 seconds. We reconnect the cable to the power source and to the device. Press the power button. We load several sheets into the paper feed tray until they stop. We are trying to print the page directly from the control panel to see if the problem is fixed.

Canon MFP Repair

If the problem persists, then the next step is to clean the rollers. They are contaminated by the printer due to the accumulation of paper dust, fibers and other debris. To carry out the cleaning you will need:

  • a piece of lint-free cloth;
  • cotton swabs;
  • pure water (distilled or bottled).

Turn off the device from the network. We take out the cartridge and wipe the visible rollers with a slightly damp cloth. We remove dirt and debris from the entire surface of the rollers.

We check the status of the feed protection device. Lightly damp cotton swab to clean it.

If the actions with cleaning and resetting the settings have not resolved the malfunctions, we will replace the rollers.

In the event of a breakdown of such a complex mechanism as an MFP, we recommend contacting a service center, rather than “self-medicating”. Do-it-yourself MFP repairs can end up exacerbating the problem and ultimately contacting repair technicians.
