It happens that situations arise when we need only a mouse on a personal computer, but the keyboard can only interfere. In this case, do not completely turn it off, you can just block it. Also, a key lock is sometimes necessary when the family has a growing up and very interested in everything baby. And sometimes a pet, a fluffy affectionate kitty, starts to flatter, climb right on the keyboard while you are not using it, thereby knocking down the process of work.
Locking the keypad is a simple process in itself, it won’t take much of your time. And unlocking the keyboard will also be quick and easy.
So, to lock the keypad without interference, you will need to do the following:
- You need to press the right Shift key and hold it for eight seconds.
- After holding the key for eight seconds, the "Filter Input" window will appear. This window will provide general information about Key Filtering. This option does not completely lock the keyboard, it only enables the ignore mode of repeated and short presses.
- In order to enable partial blocking, you need to click on the button in the window that we have selected: either it is “OK” or “Cancel”. To configure the filtering mode, select and, accordingly, click on the button called “Parameters”.
- Usually, after pressing the “Options” button, you will see the “Accessibility” window, where three blocks will be available: “Filtering Input”, “Sticky Keys” and “Speaking of Mode Switching”. To configure the parameters in the second block, called "Sticky keys", you must click on it "Settings".
- In the window that appears after pressing and is called "Setting the filtering mode", it will be possible to configure all the main parameters of sticking keys. After carrying out all the necessary actions, you just need to confirm your choice by pressing the "OK" button.
Please note that locking the keypad will not protect your computer from unauthorized interference. It only prevents unnecessary keystrokes when not required.
There are other options when the process (locking the computer keyboard) is fast and high quality:
- If the computer is assembled in an AT form factor case, then it will have a keyboard lock. When you insert the key included in the kit into such a lock, and then turn this key, the keyboard will stop working. We block only counterclockwise - this should be remembered as “Our Father”! In order to unlock it, you will need to turn the same key clockwise.
- If the case is made in the ATX form factor, then there will be no keyboard lock on it. In this case, you can disassemble the keyboard and, having found an oxide capacitor on its board, cut the track that leads from the positive output of the capacitor to the microcircuit. At a place parallel to the cut, connect the switch and place it in a convenient place in the keyboard body. After that, you just need to open the switch to lock, and to unlock, close it.
- Some manufacturers of keyboards on the case have controllers with a lock program. They are indicated by the additional key Fn. And on one of the F keys a lock is depicted. To lock the keyboard, you must simultaneously press these two keys, and to unlock do the same procedure.
Of course, all of the above will fit both desktop computers and laptops. That is, locking the keyboard on a laptop is practically no different from a similar procedure in relation to stationary computers. Unless, it should be noted the last option, on laptops the Fn key is quite rare.
