In the market of computer spare parts, the majority of coolers manufactured are tower coolers. This is explained by the fact that they cool the processor better and better, and this is exactly what it is. The only possible drawback is the heavy weight, but it is more than compensated by high-quality cooling.
Cooling Tips
First you should know that not all well-known manufacturers of good tower coolers supply high-quality goods. It often happens that a little-known company makes products of much higher quality than a well-known brand. For this reason, you should carefully read the description of the product on the box before you purchase it.
The next pitfall may turn out to be the materials from which the tower cooler is made. In particular, this applies to the radiator, since the material from which it is made must have good heat conductivity. After all, the main task of a tower cooler is to cool the processor and remove heat from it with its dispersion in the surrounding space.
Compatible with power connector on motherboard and RPM control
Another important aspect in choosing a cooling system for the processor is the number of contacts on the deviceβs power cable. The fact is that tower coolers powered by three contacts will rotate the fan at full power constantly. Another thing is cooling with four contacts, because it is an additional parameter that makes it possible to control the speed. To use this function, you need to go into the BIOS settings after installing the tower cooler and put a checkmark in the right place. In this case, the speed will be automatically adjusted in response to the degree of processor load.
The last item again touches the power cable. Many motherboards support a four-pin cooler connector, but you can also connect a 3-pin cable there. If the motherboard only supports a three-pin connector, then the fourth will simply stick around.
Installing a cooler on an AMD processor
To begin with, it is worth checking whether the processor is well fixed in the socket. To do this, push the latch and put it back. If it closed without difficulty, then the processor stands exactly horizontal.
A small amount of thermal paste needs to be applied to the processor, it will provide filling the space between the cooler sole and the device itself. Now you can neatly and evenly distribute the thermal grease. Tower coolers for AMD processors are mounted using special levers. Additional tools, such as screwdrivers, are not needed. The tower cooler is installed strictly on a horizontally located motherboard.
After all the preparations, you can proceed to the installation itself, which does not take much time. You need to install a tower cooler strictly above the processor, so before buying it is better to determine the size of the fan so that there is no skew. After installation, you need to fix the levers in their places and connect it to the power.
Installing a cooler on an Intel processor
In addition to the screw mount, tower coolers for Intel processors also have a reinforcing plate, which is worth paying attention to later.
The beginning of the installation is practically no different from the previous representative: checking the position of the processor, applying thermal paste and the horizontal position of the motherboard. The difference between installations on two different processors is that you will need screwdrivers to install this tower cooler.
First you need to attach a reinforcing plate to the back of the motherboard. This is done so that the motherboard does not break under the weight of the cooler. Next, the tower cooler is installed and fixed with bolts for stability.
