How to glue wallpaper

Many are generally familiar with the process of wallpapering, but not everyone knows how to do it right. It would seem that there is nothing complicated about this, which could be easier than sticking strips of colored paper onto the walls. But not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. Each business has its own subtleties, in this article we will figure out how to properly wallpaper in the apartment.

For starters, of course, you need to choose a wallpaper and purchase the right amount of rolls. In order to find out how many rolls are needed, you need to measure the total area of the walls on which you will glue the wallpaper. Measure the total length of all the walls and multiply it by the height of the room, you will get the area that needs to be pasted. And you should not subtract window and doorways from this area, this will be your supply of wallpaper.

On the roll of wallpaper, the area that can be pasted with this roll or only the length and width of the roll can be indicated. Therefore, after calculating the area of the walls of the room, also write down the length of all the walls and the height of the room. When buying, you may have to calculate the number of stripes of wallpaper instead of area. In any case, you need to buy wallpaper with a margin, because it will be very disappointing if there is not enough small piece, and in the store there will no longer be such wallpaper.

After the wallpaper is bought, you need to buy glue. Here you can only recommend buying glue with a color indicator, it is much better visible when applied. On the packaging with glue, it will be mandatory to indicate what area the packaging is designed for. You already know the area of walls, so it’s not difficult to buy the necessary amount of glue.

And that's not all. Before you learn how to properly glue the wallpaper, you need to stock up with the necessary tool for this. For sticking you will need a special rubber roller, a plastic spatula, a wallpaper knife (a regular clerical one will do) and a container for glue.

Before you properly glue the wallpaper, you must also properly prepare the walls. If the walls are not prepared properly, the wallpaper is simple - they will soon begin to move away from the walls. The preparation of the walls is to remove old wallpaper, if any, and subsequent primer. If the walls in your apartment are often moldy from exposure to moisture and fungus, it is necessary to treat them with a special antiseptic.

So, the wallpaper, glue and tools are purchased, the walls are prepared, you can proceed directly to the wallpaper sticker. First, spread the glue, as it takes a little time to insist. While the glue is swelling, prepare a place on the floor where you will apply glue to the strips of wallpaper. It should be noted here that if you glue non-woven wallpaper, then in no case can they be smeared with glue, otherwise they will stretch and stick them will not work.

When the place is ready and the glue has reached the desired condition, you can start cutting wallpaper into strips of the required length. To do this, measure the height of the room at the place of gluing the strip and, adding 10-15 centimeters, cut off the strip. If the height of the room is the same around the perimeter, then you can immediately cut the required number of strips.

After the strips are ready, glue the wallpaper with glue and fold them so that they are saturated. In the meantime, apply glue to a section of the wall on which you will now stick a strip of wallpaper. After that, you can stick the strip. You need to do this with an assistant, one takes the strip by the upper edge, and the other holds the bottom so that the strip does not stick to the whole wall.

When the strip of wallpaper is attached to the wall and aligned, it is necessary to expel air from under it. This is done with a rubber roller, a plastic spatula and a rag. Air must be expelled from the center to the edges, if small bubbles remain, you do not need to pierce them, as some do, they will disappear themselves after the wallpaper dries.

It is also worth noting that you need to start gluing the wallpaper not from the window or door, as many advise, but from the corner of the room. The fact is that no matter how ideally the walls are processed, the corners are still a little uneven. Therefore, it is necessary to make a mark on the wall, from which you will begin to glue the wallpaper. To do this, measure the width of the wallpaper from the corner of the room, subtract 5-7 centimeters from it and from this place and start gluing.

After all the strips are glued, it is necessary to trim the excess wallpaper from the top and bottom with a spatula and knife. Particular accuracy is not important here, as the baseboard will be fastened at the top and bottom, which will hide all the flaws.
