A computer is a complex device that can periodically fail. It is not easy to independently diagnose the cause of “strange behavior” of the system. Not all users will look for problems in the PC, but simply take it for repair. Therefore, when the computer restarts continuously, many are lost and immediately run to repair.
Reasons for the problem
Why does the computer restart itself? Determining the cause will not be easy. And it is not always immediately possible to do this, especially if you are an inexperienced PC user. What is happening with the system?
You turn on the computer, the operating system starts to load, programs open normally, and at first glance everything seems to work correctly. But at some point, the computer starts to reboot. Hardware conflict

- Failure of capacitors. This is a frequent breakdown of low-quality or outdated models. The contacts are broken or they have dried out.
- Housing contamination. Dust and dirt can get into the power supply, so it is important to keep the fan clean. Perhaps its speed has significantly decreased due to pollution, which means that the temperature inside the PSU has risen.
- Damaged contacts. The power supply is connected to the board using the appropriate connector. Since he has many contacts, it may happen that due to a violation even of a couple of them, the PSU will not work properly, causing similar problems.
Breaking contact
In addition to problems with the power supply connector, the same situation may arise with other components of the system. In most cases, contact disturbance is associated with power outages, voltage fluctuations. It happens that the device independently turns off and then connects.
The operating system does not know how to respond to such errors. In order not to burn out the entire motherboard, the computer restarts.
Overheating of the entire system or individual components
Perhaps the computer was originally installed poor-quality or defective cooling system. Because of this, all components can suffer from overheating and try to cope with it in different ways. There are several types of faults:
- the cooling system is outdated or was initially defective;
- the computer is located next to the heater or in the sun, because of which it receives additional heat;
- Thermal grease has not changed for a long time, which must be periodically removed and used more recent;
- A dirty housing can also cause overheating.
Malware
Unfortunately, viruses do a lot of damage to the system. If you are a neat and attentive PC user, then some hardware malfunctions will happen to you extremely rarely. But no one can be safe from viruses, given their current power.
Some malware is so dangerous that it does not even need to be installed to get into the system. They themselves find the way to the computer through emails, online advertising and utilities.
Correction of the situation
If the computer is constantly restarting, you first need to eliminate the likelihood of a system infection. Therefore, it is important to scan the system with antivirus. If you notice that the computer restarts after a certain load, there is a possibility that the cause of this was overheating. Increased temperature conditions can say a lot about the health of the system. To do this, you can install a utility, for example, MSI Afterburner. And although its main purpose is acceleration, it has a tab in which you can observe the temperature indicators of each component system.
You may have noticed that the processor temperature is too high. In this case, it is likely that the thermal grease is dry or the standard cooling system is malfunctioning. Then you have to disassemble the computer, unscrew the cooler and check the condition of the thermal paste.
In the utility, you may find that the computer restarts because all components have an excessive temperature. This may indicate contamination in the enclosure or poor-quality cooling system.
