The city of Izhevsk has about ten different churches. One of them is the young and beautiful Orthodox church of St. Seraphim of Sarov. This holy miracle worker is loved and revered not only in Udmurtia, but also in all the Orthodox cities of Russia.
Temple history
The temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk was built on donations from the local population in 2013.
The history of its construction is very complicated - the townspeople have been waiting for the opening of the temple for more than ten years. Back in 1999, local authorities allocated a small area for wasteland for its construction.
There is one detail - initially it was planned to erect a large temple in honor of the prophet Elijah, and not Seraphim of Sarov. But then there was an acute need for the restoration of St. Michael's Cathedral. It was decided to take up the cathedral first. And all the money intended for the construction of the church of Elijah was transferred to the account of the Mikhailovsky Church.
After the reconstruction of the cathedral, there was no money left for the construction of a large temple. Then they decided to build a small church in honor of the miracle worker Seraphim of Sarov. Great financial assistance was provided by various enterprises of Izhevsk.
Funds for the construction of the temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk were collected by the whole world. Thus, over the course of five years, 48.5 million rubles were raised, and construction began.
In total, 100 million rubles were spent on the construction of the church.
Throughout the time the construction was underway, every Sunday near the future church, believers gathered together with the clergy and read an akathist to Seraphim of Sarov.
Description
The temple of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk was built in the style of traditional Russian architecture with a tented dome. The building is low, elongated horizontally. If you look at the temple from above, then at its base a cross will be visible. This is due to the fact that the two buildings of the church are connected by a passage.
The interior of the upper temple is made in restrained colors. There are no murals on the walls, and all the icons are made of wood. Initially, it was planned to make the whole temple wooden, but, fearing fires, they abandoned this idea.
In the church, as it should be according to the old Orthodox traditions, they do not trade. Of course, there is a church shop on the territory, but in the church of Seraphim of Sarov in Izhevsk you can freely take a candle and put it on.
Here is a unique font in the height of a person, laid out in mosaics. In it you can baptize not only an adult, but at the same time a whole family. The font floor is lined with fancy Byzantine-style mosaics.
There is a Sunday school at the church, where the Church Slavonic language is studied.
On the site in front of the temple there is a monument to Seraphim of Sarov, 3.6 meters high, which is impossible not to notice. The miracle worker is on his knees and in prayer extends his arms to heaven. The author of the monument is the local sculptor P. Medvedev. He portrayed the old man at the time of the end of the prayer feat, and the descent of the spirit of God upon him.
The territory of the temple is fully landscaped and fenced. There is a park with paving paths, comfortable benches, coniferous plantations and a playground. Good lighting. You can come here for a walk with the children.
