Moscow State Engineering University (MAMI): student reviews

The largest technical university in the country - Moscow Polytechnic University has incorporated two metropolitan universities, including the Engineering University - MAMI. Reviews from previous years' graduates do not quite understand such a replenishment of Alma Mater. However, today's students believe that the university did not lose at all from the merger. Firstly, because the Moscow Polytechnic University was a very good successor to the best traditions of MSTU MAMI, reviews note the steady development of the scientific and educational activities of the new educational institution, which consists of two perfectly complemented each other and equally glorious Moscow universities. Moreover, each of them has gone the hard way of many reorganizations and renaming.

Way

The first step is always important, because it is he who chooses the direction for the whole long and long way. Moscow State Engineering University (MAMI) began to receive reviews already in its infancy, in 1864, when a small craft school for the poor opened in Moscow. And since the direction was chosen correctly, after a short time the Komissarovskoye technical school was already showing off at the school site - the leading one from technical secondary educational institutions, which, perhaps, was not equal in tsarist Russia.

Many believe that it was then that the formation of domestic professional education began. KTU improved, accumulated experience, and most of its traditions remained for a long time after the revolution. On its basis, other educational institutions were organized, which will be discussed below, but the direction remained at the time of the organization of MAMI. The reviews of specialists who graduated from this university are full of nostalgia and gratitude for the quality of education, since specialists from these walls have always come out wonderful.

KTU

At that time, the machine-building industry did not exist in Russia, and the craft school taught the children of the poor and orphans bookbinding, shoemaking and tailoring. He founded the school of Christian Meyen, and the railway tycoon - Peter Gubonin allocated funds for this. In 1866, when no one had even seen in a fantastic dream the creation of a technical university MAMI on a tailor base, reviews about this school were very positive.

Otherwise, in 1866 they would not have been given the name of the national hero Komissarov, who had saved Alexander the Second during an attempt on his life. So the school became Komissarovskaya. And in 1869, the same Gubonin built a school building for the school right in the very center of Moscow - in Blagoveshchensky Lane - and the beautiful Alexander Nevsky Church, adjacent to the new craft school. Komissarovskaya school developed very quickly. Boys have been studying here for three whole years at full supply, and the processing of wood and metal completely supplanted shoe and tailoring training in three or four years. In 1870, the school became a school.

ICTU

Now they studied here for five whole years, and since 1886 they have already been seven. By 1892, new enclosures and various equipment appeared according to the newest models of that time. In 1902, the school already had twenty separate buildings, its own power station and electric lighting from it. Copper and iron foundries, as well as a large woodworking workshop, appeared.

From time to time, MAMI students write reviews about these ancient buildings, where KTU was once located, which in 1916 was awarded the title of Imperial (IKTU). They love their university and its history. Students write that in terms of their technical equipment, according to the curriculum, according to teaching methods and staging of education, the school clearly exceeded the level itself. All this was more like a higher educational institution, and the universities were not superior in terms of equipment. The school differed from the university only in that the wards got practical skills here.

Lomonosov College

The professional authority of ICTU in the country was unusually high. Many prominent industrialists and future scientists were trained here. V. M. Kovan - one of the pillars of domestic engineering graduated from this educational institution. M. A. Saverin - a prominent teacher and scientist, professor at MVTU im. Bauman also received his first knowledge at this school. Professors already in Soviet times were the teachers of ICTU, who worked there for a long time before the revolution.

These are academicians of the USSR Academy of Sciences V.S. Kulebakin and V.A. Aleksandrov-Roslavlev, D.K. Karelskikh, I.V. Gribov, professors of MAMI (Institute), many associate professors and doctors of science who previously worked also received reviews of the excellent work in ICTU. And immediately after the revolution, this educational institution began to be called differently: in 1919 it was renamed the First Moscow Mechanical and Electrotechnical College named after Lomonosov University (popularly - Lomonosov Technical School).

PMEI

Then new branches opened, now there are five of them: automobile, steam engineering, internal combustion engines, metal processing, electrical. The college had its own Presidium, chaired by I.V. Gribov, who later headed the Faculty of Automotive and Tractor, as well as the Department of Automobile Operation. But it was much later, when this educational institution was already called the Moscow Automotive Institute. Reviews about MAMI (Moscow) consisted and consist mostly of thanks to the teachers. Ivan Vasilievich Gribov enjoyed unquestioned authority and immeasurable love of students.

However, the capabilities of the former IKTU far exceeded even the technical school programs; much more highly qualified personnel were trained here for young Soviet industry. That is why, already in 1920, the college became the Practical Mechanical and Electrotechnical Institute named after Lomonosov. At that time, practical institutes trained highly specialized specialists in certain branches of knowledge. The training course became three-year, and it was divided in two. After a year and a half, students received a certificate of completion of the concentrate, which indicated the qualifications: engineer, technician and so on, and after another year and a half - the second, but always only in the chosen specialty. In terms of the volume of programs, it was far from a university of mechanical engineering.

MAMI

Feedback on the quality of teaching, however, was excellent then, otherwise the practical institute could not have become a higher technical educational institution in 1922. However, the institute did not immediately come to its familiar name. At first it was the Moscow Institute of Mechanics and Electrical Engineering with rector I.V. Gribov. In 1924, he became the Moscow Mechanical Institute. (In 1925, he first released real mechanical engineers in the amount of forty-five people).

In 1930, the institute was called the Moscow Autotractor. It was only in 1932 that he received his real name - the Lomonosov Moscow Automotive Institute. However, this transformation was not completed. There came even (though not too long) a period when this illustrious educational institution as such ceased to exist. This was not a complete death, since the entire institute was compressed to the size of a faculty, but, one might say, a coma. Fortunately, the government quickly corrected this annoying mistake.

Conversions

Then, for many years after the reconstruction, MAMI selflessly carried the difficult mission of the main branch higher educational institution of the country and prepared the most highly qualified personnel for all research institutes and automotive enterprises. Then came a new time, the time of the next transformations. In 1992, MAMI became the Academy of Automotive and Tractor Engineering. The new status did not last long. Already in 1997, the Ministry of Education issued an order to rename the academy at MSTU MAMI. Then in 2011, there was a merger of two universities, that is, MSTU MAMI received a new structural unit in the form of Moscow State University of Environmental Engineering.

MGUIE is also a fairly old university with its own traditions. It was founded in 1931 on the basis of the faculty of Moscow Art Theater (Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology) and, frankly, it flourished under the name of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering. He was the oldest and one of the most respected universities in the country, a leading educational institution for the training of scientific and engineering personnel. Here, too, there were many wonderful teachers. I.I. Artobolevsky, for example, an academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, widely known for his work, as well as the well-known and popularly beloved P. L. Kapitsa, is a Nobel laureate and member of the English Royal Scientific Society. But now we are not talking about MGUIE, but about MAMI. University reviews in large numbers. It is especially interesting to read student forums.

"Auto mechanics" are joking

MGUIE University, of course, has its own pride, and in the merger of universities, equality at first turned out to be somewhat similar to rivalry. Therefore, the discussion on forums of such painful topics as the domestic auto industry sometimes turned not only to individuals, but also to accusations of insufficient training of the educational institution.

From adherents of chemical engineering to the direction of "auto mechanics" the word "diapers" often flew (there is such a Japanese company Unicharm that manufactures baby products Mamy Poko - diapers "Mami Poko"). The reviews, sprinkled with emoticons, indicate that the "auto mechanics" did not remain in debt.

About problems

But - jokes aside. Actually, the most interesting and most painful topics are discussed. Diseases of our automobile industry occurred and are happening precisely because young technologists, designers and engineers cannot convey their ideas to industrial applications.

This is a huge disaster. Because outside the country they almost always find such recognition, and the implementation of their ideas is not long in coming. As many cases as you can, in the silhouette of a foreign concept car, you can see the outline of a drawing that has been gathering dust in Russia for a long time on a shelf just because the design student is too young for ideas that can be implemented.

Now

And now there is a student design bureau at MSTU MAMI, where a student has the opportunity to display his talents. Moreover, he can see the results of labor - a finished car, really functioning.

Now the university has six faculties and three branches. The number of areas and specializations is increasing every year, and the contingent is becoming more and more at MSTU MAMI. Student reviews indicate that learning is becoming more difficult, but more interesting. Moreover, students write this literally in all departments - and in absentia, and evening, and afternoon.
