Basic rules for safe driving: common causes of accidents

No matter how significant a person’s driving experience is, he will not protect him from emergency traffic accidents. The culprit in them can be both the driver himself, and the vehicle, and another participant in the movement. It is impossible to exclude all unpleasant situations that may arise during the journey, but you can and should try to prevent them and minimize the possible damage. What is needed for this? Follow a few simple rules for safe driving.

Rule number 1: “change shoes” cars correctly

According to the traffic police, about 27.4% of collisions on the road are caused by drivers who neglect the rules of seasonal tire changes and the principles of their choice:

  • Choosing all-season models, rather than winter ones, during frosts and cold weather, the driver risks losing control of the car on slippery surfaces.
  • Savings on the purchase of studded tires increases the braking distance on the slushy and ice-crusted road surface.
  • Do not trust advertising that says that there are all-weather tires, this is a fairly relative concept, all-weather should not be taken literally.

In most cases, drivers choose a lower-quality winter tire option, but at an affordable cost, risking safety. But compromise is not the only solution. Today you can buy high-quality winter tires at an affordable price. Those who are going to “change” cars can see tires in the catalog specialized store. Remember: compromise often leads to accidents. Better study the full range of products and select the tires that are most suitable for the characteristics.

Rule number 2: overtake correctly

Frontal collisions in 8 out of 10 cases occur due to the fact that the driver decided to conduct a rash overtaking. Poor visibility, high speed, detour on the turn - situations in which it is difficult for the driver to navigate (correctly calculate the distance to the nearest car, the possibility of entering the turn). It is regrettable that a head-on collision in such a situation could be easily avoided:

  • If the traffic on the oncoming road is too great, do not make a maneuver.
  • If the track is loaded with vehicles, it is better not to overtake at high speed - you may not have time to react.
  • If visibility is poor, do not maneuver.
  • If at night the driver notices that in the oncoming lane the vehicle is trying to perform a maneuver for which there is not enough distance, turn on the high beam.

Overtaking on wet, icy or slushy road surfaces on worn or off-season tires should also be as accurate as possible. But still, it’s better to “shod” the car safely and seasonally. Choose the seller of tires that can offer an extensive assortment of goods at the price of the manufacturer. In Novosibirsk it is Torgshin company collaborating with suppliers directly. It is worth paying attention to reliable sellers so that you do not have to compromise when choosing between price and security.

Rule number 3: check the health of the machine in time

A faulty car on the road is a big risk of an accident. From the car rushing at high speed in the oncoming lane of the car, whose steering wheel is locked, the brake did not work, and so on, it will not be easy to dodge. Failure means the inability to control the vehicle, which means that the driver can neither prevent the occurrence of an emergency, nor reduce its consequences.

If the driver is in such a situation, it is necessary:

  • Estimate the distance to an uncontrollable car.
  • Do not panic, try to predict the trajectory of the vehicle.
  • Do not brake sharply (it will help to respond quickly if necessary) and, if possible, pull over.
  • If the car rushing towards is at a minimum distance, then turn to the side opposite to its trajectory.
  • Closely monitor other cars that are on the trajectory of your movement.

A considerable danger is a tired or sleepy person driving a car. Noticing such a driver is easy. It is necessary to evaluate the movement of the car: zigzags and “pirouettes” on the road indicate a “unsafe” driver. When driving, you need to learn one important rule: it is better to prevent an accident. Be vigilant, do not be distracted, watch the movement of the vehicles closest to you. And most importantly, do not lose self-control. Panic is the driver’s worst enemy.
