Erasure Band: History and Discography

In the late 70s and early 80s in the UK such a musical genre as synth-pop, related to the direction of electronic music, gained popularity. The main feature of synth-pop is the demonstrative "artificiality" of sound, which musicians achieved with the help of synthesizers.

Many famous music groups performed in this style: Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and others. In the late 80s, the songs of the Erasure group steadily kept in the tops of the American music charts.

Team History

The group was created in 1985 by Vince Clark and Andy Bell. It is noteworthy that Clark was also one of the founders of Depeche Mode, but soon left this team.

After several years of work in various groups (Yazoo, The Assembly), Vince Clark decided to create a new duet. He organized an audition, according to the results of which Andy Bell became the second member of the still unnamed band. The name was found in the summer of that year, since then it has not changed.

Wonderland's debut album, recorded in the fall of 1985, did not receive much success among fans of synth-pop, but the next year the single `` Sometimes '' was created, which became a hit in European countries and made the Erasure band really popular both in native England and abroad.

In 1987, the team performed in the United States with Duran Duran. Shortly afterwards, Victim of Love, part of The Circus, won first place in the American dance charts.

Discography

At the moment, the duo has released dozens of singles and 16 studio albums, the last of which was released under the name World Be Gone in 2017.

The most successful Erasure albums are The Innocents (1988), Wild! (1989), Chorus (1991), and I Say I Say I Say (1994), which ranked first in the UK charts.

The most popular singles are Sometimes (2nd place in the UK charts), Blue Savannah (1990, 3rd place in the charts) and A Little Respect (1988, 4th place in the charts).

Andy Bell also has two solo albums released in 2005 and 2010. In an interview, Bell announced that he intends to continue his solo career, but at the same time he will remain a member of the duet.

Group currently

The duet has not broken up, it still exists. Despite the fact that the peak of Erasure's popularity fell on 1986-1995, and today they are not so commercially successful, Vince Clark and Andy Bell continue to make music, releasing albums and singles as part of a duet, and solo.

Erasure also does not stop interacting with its listeners, giving concerts from time to time, going on music tours and participating in various reality shows. The last tour so far took place in 2011, during which Andy Bell also took part in the Popstar to Operastar show on one of the British TV channels.
