About the theater
The Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater (Minsk) is the largest in Belarus. It is located in an excellent room, in the Trinity suburb. The building is surrounded by a delightful picturesque park and is considered a monument of architecture, a pure example of domestic constructivism of the pre-war era.
This theater has ballet and opera troupes, a symphony orchestra constantly sounds, there is a choir, there is a children's music studio-theater, an incomparable creative team called the Belarusian Chapel. Mostly performances are staged in Russian and Belarusian.
The Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater (Minsk) was founded at the state studio. Its first discovery took place in May 1933. Actually, the theater itself opened in 1938.
Years of war and its terrible consequences
During the Second World War, the theater suffered very severe damage. In the very first days of the occupation, a bomb dropped by aircraft fell into the building, and this completely destroyed the auditorium. The German invaders brought to Germany the elements of the interior and decoration of the theater.
After Minsk was liberated, great efforts were made to reconstruct this landmark of Belarus. The theater building was completed, and multi-tiered balconies were formed for the audience. The hall has become more comfortable. The Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater (Minsk), whose address remains the same (1 Paris Commune Square), was restored for three years. The final construction was completed in 1948. In the same year, a park was made around the building. Since then, instead of the market, a marvelous garden, once designed by I. G. Langbard, flaunts here. Its facade is protected by charming muses: Calliope, Terpsichore, Melpomene, Polygymy. Not far from the central facade is a fountain. New productions took place as early as 1947, and the pre-war repertoire was revived by 1949.
Construction and restoration work resumed in 1967 and 1978. As a result, a low roof was made, resembling a helmet.
