The Izh-94 rifle family has been produced since the mid-90s and is a solidly made combined weapon based on the well-proven Izh-27 model. Thanks to removable blocks, the hunter can set up weapons for almost any type of hunt. One of the barrels is designed for firing a shot charge (20 or 12 gauge), the second rifled barrel - for cartridges of various calibers.
There are four modifications of IZH-94: Taiga, Sever, IZH-94R and Express. Each of the models has its characteristic features, advantages and disadvantages. Also, these models are known under the brand name "Baikal".

The device, the principle of operation of IZH-94
The gun consists of a box with a butt and a barrel detachable block with a forearm. In the receiver, the barrels are locked by means of a locking bar. The locking unit is controlled by the locking lever located at the top of the box. The lock lever and the locking bar with the open trunks are held by the delay mechanism of the locking bar, which when closing the trunks releases the bar automatically. Using a lever-type latch on the receiver unit, a removable forend is fixed.
Trunks are located in the receiver in a vertical plane: threaded at the bottom, smooth at the top. This weapon for hunting can have three design versions of the receiver unit:
- The trunks are connected by breech and muzzle couplings, equipped with a mechanism for reducing STP (the abbreviation stands for mid-point of hit) trunks, sights - the front sight entirely.
- The trunks are connected by breech and muzzle couplings, there is no mechanism for the STP trunks, there is a vented aiming strip.
- The trunks are connected by a clutch and interbarrel strips, the mechanism of STP trunks is absent.
The adjustment rod in the STP reduction mechanism (mid-point of hit) was selected by the diameter at the manufacturer when shooting the gun so as to match the STP trunks. When connecting the trunks with couplings without interbarrel strips, the lower barrel in the muzzle clutch is installed with a guaranteed clearance - this prevents the STP shifts due to uneven heating during intensive shooting from one of them.
Shotgun
The charm of the 94th model is that, thanks to removable blocks, you can hunt almost any game. It is enough to order blocks of different types for the combination gun Izh-94, and if necessary, change them depending on the types of hunting.
For example, if you want to hunt ducks, it is enough to make three movements and install a smoothbore block corresponding to the Izh-27 model. I wanted to go for a hare or a larger beast, snap off the Izh-27 block and install, for example, a combined block with a lower rifled barrel (Win308.) And an upper smooth-bore (12 gauge) - we have before us the Izh-94 Taiga.
Owner reviews indicate an excellent balance of the 94th model with a combined unit. This is achieved by the overall reasonable design and fairly short 600-millimeter trunks. At the same time, the effective range is sufficient for prey hunting. Weapon Markings
The length of the chamber of a smooth barrel, the permissible maximum pressure, the designation and magnitude of the muzzle narrowing, the calibers of both barrels are marked on the breech sleeve of the barrel unit.
For Izh-94 rifles manufactured with a seat providing for replaceable muzzle constrictions, Var marking must be affixed to the breech sleeve coupling, and the nominal value and designation of the narrowing are indicated on the muzzle changeable constriction.
Sighting device
Sights - adjustable. The whole is horizontally adjustable and fixed with a screw. The front sight is adjustable vertically and is fixed by a spring-loaded choke. The seat for fixing the bracket of the optical sight has a dovetail pattern and is located on the coupling crest.
Shock mechanism
Izh-94 - a gun with two triggers. The coil springs are installed helical cylindrical. Pushers, a hinge and cock squeeze the mainspring and cock the trigger when opening the barrels. The extension of the cartridges by the ejector from the chamber occurs when the trunks are opened. Impact mechanism - trigger, returning triggers ("with the rebound") are structurally separate from the strikers.
The trigger mechanism can be made in two designs:
- With a direct sequence of firing, typical for double-barreled shotguns, when the front trigger initiates a shot from the rifled lower barrel, respectively, the rear from the upper (smooth) barrel.
- With reverse firing sequence.
The sequence of operation of the trigger mechanism is indicated in the certificate of acceptance of the Izh-94 gun.
The trigger mechanism provides for the possibility of a smooth trigger release. To do this, when the trunks are open, the fuse button must be moved to the front position by pressing on both triggers and gently closing the trunks. To prevent an accidental shot, you must remove the cartridges from the chamber before performing this technique!
Fuse
The fuse located at the top of the box is automatic, it is activated every time the lock lever is turned. The fuse is turned off by moving the button forward. The Izh-94 Taiga model is based on the well-proven Izh-27 rifle and differs from its predecessor in the reinforced forehead of the block for a rifled shot. The gun is very reliable, solidly made. A rifled lower barrel is capable of firing central battle cartridges of all common calibers (5.6x50R, 7x65R, 9.3x74R and others).
It can be equipped with removable blocks of various layouts, including with two smooth trunks - this is an important feature of the model Izh-94 Taiga. "North"
Shotgun Izh-94 "North" was developed in 1992. It differs from other modifications by the principle of trunk layout. The designers decided to swap the trunks: the rifled is located on top, has a caliber of 5.6 mm. Smooth, respectively, from the bottom: its caliber is the 20th. Horizontally paired trunks detachable. Inside, only the lower one is smooth - a smooth trunk. The barrel length is standard for the entire lineup - 600 mm.
