How to increase the headphone volume in Windows?

In our everyday life, very often questions arise, the answers to which, it would seem, are obvious and understandable to any person. For example, even a schoolboy knows how to increase the volume of headphones. Rather, he thinks he knows. The fact is that in this case there are a number of nuances that significantly affect the method of solution and the final result.

The universal answer to the question of how to increase the volume of headphones is to increase the gain of signal-processing electronic circuits. Let us dwell on this point in more detail. As you know, sound vibrations converted by a recording device (microphone) into electrical signals are alternating current. It is very easy to record it in one way or another, and then send it to the playback device, resulting in the original sound. The magnitude of the recorded oscillations is usually insufficient for loud reproduction, therefore, amplifying circuits are always placed between the carrier and speakers. Their work is extremely simple and consists in increasing the value of the incoming signal. The listener is given the opportunity to partially intervene in their work: to increase the volume of the headphones (or any other similar device), you need to turn the handle of the variable resistor. It is often possible to selectively amplify certain frequencies (greater than high or low). For example, sometimes you need to figure out how to increase the volume of headphones connected to desktop computer speakers. It's simple: almost all such models have a built-in amplifier and allow you to amplify (reduce) the sound by rotating the handle of the resistor on their case.

Nowadays a frequently asked question is how to increase the headphone volume on a computer. Sound card amplifier control is implemented programmatically, so in Windows systems you need to click the left mouse button on the speaker icon in the lower right corner next to the clock and pull the slider that appears up.

The next method depends on the headphones themselves. Sometimes their manufacturers place the same resistor on the wire, rotating the handle of which, you can adjust the sound volume. This solution is simply indispensable in the case of headphones with a long (several meters) wire.

Sometimes the forums ask how to increase the volume of the headphones in some unusual way. Indeed, resistor adjustment is familiar to everyone, but sometimes it is simply not enough. You can increase the volume by changing the Windows settings. Click the right mouse button on the speaker icon and follow the “Playback devices”. In the window, click "Configure" and select the desired configuration. It does not have to correspond to the real one at all: for stereo headphones, you can try to set the “quad” mode, etc. Do not forget to check the changes.

For 5.1 headphones (there are also, for example, Cosonic HTS-168), you need to set 5.1 configuration without fail, as this affects the sound volume.

If the problem of insufficient volume occurs when watching movies or listening to music, then you can try to make local adjustments. Many software players allow you to enhance the sound with built-in means: the famous Zoom Player with the PreAMP function can increase the sound over 100% (it should be activated in the settings), and for the Winamp mp3 player there is a DFX Audio Enhancer expansion module, which among other implemented functions increases the volume sound reproduced by the player.

Realtek sound owners can try to make changes to the advanced settings. For example, loudness also indirectly affects the resulting volume.

If all else fails, the last thing remains - replacing the sound card driver with a newer version and purchasing new headphones with lower impedance (indicated in the specification).
