What to paint?
This is perhaps the first question that arises before a person who decides to take such a bold action. No matter what paint you use, it is best to apply a primer coat first. So the paint will fall better and smoother, and the old scratches and dirt will close if the door is not new.
There are several options below.
- Markers Multi-colored permanent markers will not spread and will not be smeared during drawing and will be pleasing to the eye for a long time later. They will not fade in the sun, will not be erased when washing the door. Using one or two colors, you can draw graffiti, an abstract pattern, or just write inspirational phrases and quotes, or you can use a large color scheme to draw a whole picture. Marker drawing is good because it does not require varnish.
- Acrylic. Acrylic paint is slightly less accessible than markers, but it is still quite easy to find and buy, although it costs more. The paint is brighter, it is easier to paint over large gaps. However, it will be difficult for a person who does not have high artistic skills to draw something detailed with paints, to draw contours, chiaroscuro, and small details. You can use the combined technique - draw the contours with a marker, and then paint with acrylic. Or, on the contrary, first draw something with paints, and when they dry, add small details with markers. It is only worth considering that if markers lie on any surface, then acrylic without a preliminary primer will greatly shine through.
- Stained glass window. Stained glass paints can decorate glass inserts on the doors. Such a picture should not be scribbled and rubbed, but it can withstand a gentle cleaning with a damp cloth. These paints are sold both in tubes and in jars, and they come in varying degrees of density. There are also special paints that allow you to create a reusable pattern on the glass, that is, a sticker that can be removed and glued to another place or simply put off for the time of thorough washing of the door.
- Gouache. Do-it-yourself drawings on the door with gouache will work well for the nursery, since they are easily washed off and can often be changed. For example, you can change the design depending on the time of year, or timed pictures for different holidays, or just portray something new as soon as the old picture is tired. If you want to make a more durable gouache drawing, then mix it with PVA glue in the ratio of one to one, and when everything dries, cover with several layers of acrylic varnish on top. It is important to choose a high-quality varnish, otherwise the paint may float or change colors. If the door is not covered with a primer, in greasy spots, or simply glossy - gouache, most likely, will not lie down, but will be collected in droplets.
- Oil paints. Such paints are quite expensive, but if you want to create not just a picture, but a real picture on the door, oil paints will work best. They have a rich color gamut, they retain the texture of the smear, in addition, if you studied at an art school, you probably already have experience with this material. Before drawing with oil paints, it is necessary to apply two or three layers of a primer and sand it with fine sandpaper.

Give your child brushes, paint, clothes that you don’t mind stain, and in a couple of hours the door will be a masterpiece of modern art. So a small child may form a misconception about the world. You should not draw hares pink, elephants blue, etc. Such a stylization takes place in cases where the child is already quite old and understands that in fact these animals look different.
