Louvre ventilation grilles provide clean air to the room. They can be installed on various types of ventilation: supply, exhaust, supply and exhaust. Lattices can be both external and internal, and each type has its own requirements and its own characteristics.
What are louvre grills used for and where?
Louvred ventilation grilles have their own advantages:
- decoration (the ability to hide flaws on the wall and the ventilation itself);
- protection of ventilation against the entry of foreign objects into it;
- the ability to control air flows, to strengthen or weaken them.
Ventilation louvres are mounted on any air ducts and where there is a need for their installation. Install them in order to:
- ventilate apartments, houses, other residential and office premises;
- provide high-quality air to industrial facilities, warehouses and outbuildings;
- adjust the humidity of the underground rooms (set on the foundation).
Types of louvres and their features
There are two types of louvres: metal and plastic. Both those and others are widespread, and have both their advantages and disadvantages.
The louvred metal grill is durable, but even it does not always work flawlessly, especially if they have small parts. The durability of metal products is not always confirmed in practice.
It should be borne in mind that metal blinds are subject to corrosion, so the installation of such products is not recommended in rooms with high humidity. Do not forget that today metal grilles are made from stainless materials such as aluminum or stainless steel.
Plastic louvres in modern design also have sufficient strength. Their main advantage: they are resistant to moisture, but plastic parts usually fail faster, as they often move.
Louvred metal grilles for ventilation, like plastic ones, have excellent functionality:
- forcibly ventilate the premises. This is an important function, since it is possible to adjust the direction of air flow;
- As a rule, the metal louvre grille is additionally equipped with a fine mesh that acts as a filter.
- if you do not need to constantly ventilate the room, the louvre grilles easily close (only adjustable!). This is especially convenient for underground rooms - in wet weather they can be closed and, if necessary, opened.
The advantages of metal louvres
Metal grilles are universal designs with many advantages. The main advantages are:
- high strength;
- wear resistance;
- attractiveness;
- security.
How to make a louvre grille yourself?
In rooms where the design is in second place, you can install a metal louvre grille, made independently. This is the cheapest option that can be installed in a garage, barn, poultry house, barn, etc.
With the primary skills of a mechanic and a welder, the manufacture of a lattice is a simple matter. This requires the purchase of a metal profile.
Production begins with a frame that is easier to weld from the corners. To ensure that the frame is even, you must first measure the diagonals of the internal corners of the product. They must be equal.
For the manufacture of the blinds themselves, a metal strip is required. Its dimensions will depend on the size of the corner. You need to weld strips at an angle of 45 degrees.
Installing a metal ventilation grill
Installation of louvred ventilation grilles usually does not cause difficulties, the main thing is to know exactly the size and shape of the ventilation hole itself.
But here it must be borne in mind that ventilation louvres are more durable. Even with a lot of force on the self-tapping screw, the attachment points will not be damaged.
When plastic grilles are installed, work must be done carefully so as not to damage them during fastening.
