Tapioca - what is it, what is it prepared from and how can this product be replaced

Considering the recipes of various puddings, pastries and some other desserts, you can see that they include tapioca. What is it, as a rule, is not described in the text. Therefore, many housewives, not wanting to deal with an exotic ingredient, simply ignore such recipes.

tapioca what is it
In fact, there is nothing outlandish about this product. Tapioca is just artificially made from cassava root extract cereal, rich in starch. In many countries of Latin America, it is used to prepare many dishes, including very nutritious cereals. It represents grains, as a rule, translucent, of various shapes, which are prepared quite quickly. Tapioca is a dietary product, therefore, it is often used to prepare food for children, as well as for people who have health problems. Cook such porridge in milk or broth. The result is a light but nutritious dish whose main ingredient is tapioca. What is it, many, having tried, will not immediately understand. To taste, it is vaguely reminiscent of another artificial corn starch cereal, once popular in the USSR. It was called β€œsago” and quickly entered the diet of Soviet people in the mid-80s of the last century. In addition to dietary cereals and soups, there are desserts, which include tapioca.

Pudding recipe

This tasty and quite healthy dish is prepared in just half an hour. One of its main ingredients is tapioca (how to replace it if you could not buy this product, you can find out more). The dessert is moderately sweet and quite satisfying. But the most important thing is that he practically does not harm the figure.

For 3 cups of milk (it’s better to use whole milk, but fat-free can also be used to reduce calories) take half a glass of instant tapioca (you can replace the same amount of sago), 100 g of sugar, 2 eggs, salt on the tip of a knife and a little vanilla.

The cooking process begins with boiling the cereals. Do this in boiling milk, where tapioca is sent (what it is - described earlier) or sago. Then add sugar and salt, mix and boil for 5 minutes. When using sago, they cook longer - according to the instructions on the package. Next, the fire must be minimized and the mixture left to simmer for another 2-3 minutes.

Beat eggs at this time. It is desirable that they turn white. Then 200 ml of a hot mixture of milk and tapioca is gradually introduced into the eggs, trying to mix well - then they will not curl. The resulting mass is then poured into a pan with porridge and simmer another 2-3 minutes. Then vanilla is added there, mixed and poured into portioned bowls. You can serve both hot and cooled, garnished with whipped cream, fruits, chocolate.

Tapioca Cocktail

Sweet milk drinks are loved by both children and adults. As a rule, these are cocktails that can also be beneficial if tapioca is one of the ingredients (what kind of balls float on top, kids will never guess, but this knowledge is useless to them).

So, for 100 ml of chilled milk take 30 g of vanilla or cream ice cream, fruit or chocolate for decoration. You will also need tapioca (special for desserts sold in the form of large balls). It is boiled for half an hour in a large amount of water, and then poured with caramel or hot chocolate.

Ice cream is mixed with milk using a blender, then poured into glasses, tapioca is added and decorated with chocolate or fruit.
