It’s hard to call Yulia Tymoshenko an inexperienced politician, although the phrases uttered by her sometimes confuse interviewers with their low culture. She has her own electorate, and, creating an image, she seeks to conform to his ideas about how the spokesman for the interests of this part of Ukrainian society should look.
Long history
In March 1995, the charter board, on which the "gas princess" flew, made an emergency landing in Zaporozhye before reaching Dnepropetrovsk, whose airport did not accept due to weather conditions. The customs, having searched the plane, found a large amount in foreign currency, and the Tymoshenko spouses had to spend a couple of nights in the prison of this city until they were rescued by Pavel Ivanovich Lazarenko, a great friend of the family and the prime minister. Soon, the Unified Energy Systems of Ukraine were created - a corporation that absorbed the entire gas market. It is difficult to take into account how many billions of dollars this structure has withdrawn from the country, and nobody poses such a task today.
After a criminal case was opened on Lazarenko, his right hand was arrested - Yulia Tymoshenko. Why was the head of the EESU planted in 2001? The answer to this question should be sought in the case of the ex-prime minister, who for many years languished in American dungeons. This couple was connected by common business interests, and the fact that the assistant only followed the instructions did not justify her in any way.
Tymoshenko and Yushchenko
In 2005, Tymoshenko was removed from her post as prime minister, she could not find a common language with Viktor Yushchenko, who owed a great deal to her victory during the Orange Revolution. At that time, many perceived this step by the president of Ukraine as black ingratitude.
The ex-prime minister’s further opposition struggle consisted mainly of criticizing the pro-Russian actions of the government formed by Viktor Yanukovych, its main theme was the line towards all-round Ukrainization and the course towards European integration, which are associated with independence by the electorate. Calls for strengthening national cohesion came from prison dungeons.
Since 2005, Tymoshenko has repeatedly expressed disagreement with the legal side of natural gas supplies to Ukraine. The intermediary company through which the purchases took place was called RosUkrEnergo and belonged to three owners: Gazprom (50%) from the Russian side and Firtash (45%) with Fursin (5%) from the Ukrainian side. For some reason, President Yushchenko lobbied for such an order of trade relations, and on this basis he had a conflict with the Prime Minister. This situation lasted until 2008, when Naftogaz Ukrainy became the direct buyer. This happened due to non-payment by RosUkrEnergo of the debt for 4 billion cubic meters of gas received at the end of 2007.
Everyone ran away - it works
Interesting is the position of President Viktor Yushchenko, who gave direct instructions to terminate all negotiations, not to sign a new contract and thereby called into question the country's economic security. In October 2008, with a debt of $ 2.2 billion and no agreements, the prospect of a complete cut-off of gas supply to Ukraine was quite real. The signing of the contract was scheduled for the last day of 2008. All the leaders of the country have withdrawn from the conflict. Opposition to the Ukrainian establishment with direct supplies without intermediaries was also noted by the Russian side. As a result, since January 1, 2009, the valve has been shut off.
Signature and contract terms
On January 18, a memorandum was signed. On the Russian side, V.V. Putin participated in its adoption, and on the Ukrainian side, Yulia Tymoshenko. Why did they put her, who took the responsibility to negotiate with Moscow, while the rest of the leadership rested, celebrating New Year and Christmas? There was a reason. Conditions were recognized as enslaving, and the price was unprecedentedly high (up to $ 376 per 1000 cubic meters).
A criminal case was instituted during the reign of President Yushchenko, therefore, its further consideration already under Yanukovych cannot be qualified as political reprisals against a patriot, carried out by the “pro-Kremlin” regime. From the point of view of the interests of the Russian Federation, it is difficult to overestimate the service that Yulia Tymoshenko rendered to Moscow. The term of imprisonment set as a punishment was seven years.
During detention, the famous prisoner was almost always in the hospital. Some leaked information allows us to judge that she simply simulated a serious illness.

Considering all the circumstances under which the signing of gas agreements took place, it would be difficult to indicate why Tymoshenko was sitting. Yulia Vladimirovna flew to Moscow for the reason that no one else could or did not want to do this. Ukrainian-Russian relations have reached an impasse due to the inconsistent and hostile policies pursued by the Yushchenko administration, the constant threats of the country's joining NATO and the rejection of good-neighborly relations. If Viktor Andreyevich had ventured to fly to Belokamennaya for negotiations, Putin and Medvedev would hardly have spoken to him, not to mention any successes. It was not necessary to expect that the valve opens by itself. Only Yulia Tymoshenko could somehow resolve the situation. Why did they put her first at the negotiating table, and then to the Kachanovskaya correctional colony? Was she a political prisoner? Could it have been otherwise? There are many questions, few answers.
Liberation day
But nothing lasts forever. The next Maidan, which happened in Kiev in 2013, brought to power the representatives of the Fatherland party, whose leader is Yulia Tymoshenko. For which the ex-prime minister was imprisoned, now it does not matter, from the very first days of the confrontation, he actively supported the pro-European movement, because of the lattice urging the rebels to fight to the end, not sparing their own lives. And these war cries were heard.
Yulia Tymoshenko was released on February 22, 2014 immediately after Yanukovich’s flight from Ukraine. The return was a triumph and was accompanied by a picture of uplifting hands, rolling his eyes and posing with a crutch, propping up legs weakened from constant lying, shod in high-heeled shoes. At the reception at the American embassy, a healing took place, albeit briefly and explained, obviously, by the special miraculous atmosphere of this institution.
Despite the fact that now nothing interferes with the investigation of the crimes of the “bloody regime of Yanukovych”, the new revolutionary authorities are in no hurry to deal with the circumstances of the case in which Yulia Tymoshenko was convicted. For which they planted her, now it doesn’t matter, but Petro Poroshenko, the main candidate for the presidential mace, already politely asked the rebellious lady not to take away some of his voters. He believes that if forces calling themselves democratic come forward with one candidate, then victory can be won in the first round. Klitschko agreed. Lady Yu did not succeed.
