It’s convenient to have printing equipment at home. But sometimes various troubles happen to her, because of which the device ceases to fulfill its functions. One of the common problems is that the printer does not pick up paper. What to do in this case and how to find out what the problem is without contacting a service center?
Health Check
If the Epson printer does not pick up paper (as well as the device of any other company), then first of all, you need to find out if the rollers responsible for this action rotate. It is possible that this is precisely the problem. For verification, it is enough to send any document to print and listen to the sounds that the device makes. After the crash of the carriage moving the cartridge, the roar of the rotating axis should be heard.
You can also see that the platform begins to “feed” the sheets. If this happened - everything is fine, there was no software failure, the mechanical parts are intact, the contacts work. If not, then all further actions are likely to be meaningless. Regardless of why the printer doesn’t pick up paper, Samsung, Canon, and other manufacturers advise contacting a service center, since many modern models can only remove foreign objects on their own.
Trash inside
One of the most common reasons for refusing work is getting various small and not very objects in the receiving tray. This is the reason why the printer does not pick up paper, typical for devices with vertical loading. Especially often near the rollers you can find stationery. Not only a pen or lipstick, but even such a small object as a paper clip or a staple forgotten on a sheet can interfere with paper capture. Therefore, you need to carefully examine the feed tray. It is likely that the cause of the malfunction is hiding there.
If a foreign body is found, then you need to try to remove it. There are two options. The first - with the help of long tweezers, gently picking up on the edge. The second is to turn the technique over and shake it lightly. Only this must be done carefully and briefly, because the item may fall even further or the printer will not withstand such treatment.
Roller contamination
Office equipment is a delicate thing, it is sensitive to various contaminants: dust, plaque of toner and ink, etc. It is possible that this is why the printer does not pick up paper. Xerox, HP, and other manufacturers warn that self-repair will void the warranty. If its term has passed, and the design of the printer allows you to get to the rollers, then you can clean them yourself. If not, then it is better to take the device to a specialized service center.
The cleaning procedure is simple. You will need a soft rag and a cleaning fluid. The latter is sometimes replaced with gasoline for lighters. It is advisable to take a rag light, so it will be easier to control the cleaning process. She should not leave behind a pile, otherwise the whole procedure will lose its meaning. The cloth is moistened with liquid and the rollers are wiped until the last traces of dirt, dust and color disappear. Rags can also be replaced with special napkins. They do not leave lint and remove dirt well.
Loss of elasticity
The printer does not pick up paper if the rollers are not soft enough. They are made of rubber, and it is no secret that over time it becomes tough. In this case, you need to act similarly to the previous paragraph, only instead of a cleaning fluid you need to use a reducing fluid. For a while, this will bring the printer back to life, but sooner or later it’s necessary to change the clips. By the way, there are tools that combine two functions: cleaning and restoration.
Roller Wear
Perhaps this is the most difficult case, because there is only one 100% effective tool here - replacing the aged parts. If for this reason the printer does not pick up paper, it is better to immediately hand over the equipment for repair. However, if for some reason it is not possible to take the device to a service center and wait until it is repaired, you can try to return it to working condition. There are two options:
- Offset roller. In some devices, only the part that is turned to the tray works more. The opposite is practically not loaded. As a result, the roller wears out unevenly. Therefore, you can try to turn it over so that the whole and damaged parts are swapped.
- The increase in diameter. If the roller is evenly worn on all sides, you will have to remove it from the axis and wrap it with insulating tape or tape. Enough 2-3 turns, no longer needed, because then the diameter will become too large. After such an impromptu repair, the roller must be put back.
Both of these methods are not always possible to apply. And even less often, they are effective. In addition, over time, the rollers will still have to be changed. The printer, perhaps, will pick up paper, but once or unevenly. And after a few months it will still fail. Therefore, it is better to immediately replace worn parts.
