Paint the bumper - useful tips

Car bumper performs the most important function - protects the car body from various mechanical damages. But this does not mean that he is able to completely protect all the parts and assemblies of your iron friend from a head-on collision at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. But in the parking lot, with minor accidents, the bumper copes with its function perfectly - it takes all the blow on itself, protecting the rest of the cladding.

Plastic is more repairable, and with a slight dent or scratch, you can not even go to the services of a service station, but do it yourself, saving a certain amount of money. Repairing the rear bumper, as well as the front, in the service center costs a lot of money. And if you are the owner of a domestic car, then it is best to do it yourself. It is not necessary to have any special devices: all you need is a special paper for grinding, a primer, a high-pressure compressor and, of course, the paint itself.

Painting the bumper is divided into several stages, adhering to which, you can restore all the lost properties yourself.

  1. First you need to remove all of its color from the surface of the plastic, having previously disassembled the bumper. This is done using special grinding paper, which can be found in any specialized store.
  2. After polishing, thoroughly wipe and degrease the surface with a special solvent and start the primer process (no more than two layers should be made). Remember that there are cartridges for metal surfaces, and there are for plastic ones. Using the first type of primer on a plastic bumper, you risk premature wear of the paint, as it will not adhere well.
  3. In the event of defects (the so-called "scars") on the surface of the plastic, it is recommended that they be thoroughly puttied to achieve a perfectly flat surface.
  4. Grind the primer with sandpaper until it becomes matte.
  5. Feel free to start painting. The bumper is painted in one or two layers of varnish.
  6. Bring the paint to dry completely and install the bumper back on your car.
