The normal operation of modern storage facilities is almost impossible to imagine without the use of a variety of handling equipment. All kinds of electronic trolleys, stackers, forklifts and other specialized equipment work at the expense of electricity, receiving it from a device such as traction batteries. However, not everyone understands why it is customary to use this particular option of electrical supply and what, in principle, are such devices.
What it is?
Traction batteries are specialized devices designed to generate electricity. Such equipment is used repeatedly, and at the same time it is able to accumulate and subsequently give off energy with certain parameters. In the process of charging the battery of trucks, electric energy is converted into the necessary chemical potential when energy is accumulated by electrolyte. In the case of connecting the battery to any electric motor through specialized metal terminals, the chemical potential is transformed again into electrical energy. This process is similar in the majority of cases, regardless of which traction batteries are used, but it may differ in some nuances.
What do they give?
For modern warehouse equipment, one of the most important parameters is to ensure autonomous operation. Only traction batteries can provide such properties in which these technical means have become so common.
For completely unimpeded movement throughout the warehouse, it was necessary to use an oversized energy supply system, since a direct connection to the power grid ultimately made this equipment very limited in space, and at the same time quite inconvenient if several loaders were used simultaneously in the room. The use of specialized long-term and gasoline engines as the main source caused too much pollution of the surrounding air, that is, the premises simply became polluted.
What are their advantages?
Traction batteries (12 Volt and others) made it possible to make the work of loaders absolutely safe from an environmental point of view. In addition, the complete absence of any hazardous exhausts made it possible to use such equipment in various enclosed spaces, which are characterized by limited ventilation conditions. At certain enterprises, specialized sanitary norms are introduced, which cannot be observed if standard internal combustion engines are used. Traction batteries (12 Volts and others) do not emit any chemical emissions, emissions, or any other secretions harmful to the human body.
How to choose?
To increase the overall life of the electronic engine of various warehouse equipment, you need to choose the right battery. In order to choose the most optimal traction batteries for electric motors, you should compare the characteristics of your engine, as well as the parameters of the selected device.
In the predominant majority of cases, it is initially recommended to pay attention to the voltage, which is mainly 12 volts. Next, you will need to deal with the battery capacity, since the time during which the equipment can work without charging will directly depend on it.
If you have any doubts about how correct you have chosen the device, it is best for you to contact qualified specialists, but if there is no way to get qualified external support, we recommend that you follow certain tips:
- In the predominant majority of cases, standard and gel traction batteries have a special purpose, that is, they are used with a certain type of warehouse equipment. Thus, starting from the instructions of the battery and loader you are using, you can already draw certain conclusions.
- The batteries should be selected depending on which battery you used before, if you have previously used such equipment.
- The dimensions of the seat, as well as the distance between the terminals in the design of the loader you are using, must correspond to the dimensions of the new battery.
- Among other things, an important point is the price offered for traction batteries, since not everyone can afford to use the highest quality equipment. Basically, the price of such devices starts at 8,000 rubles.
Kinds
The traction battery for an outboard motor, like other similar devices, is divided into several varieties:
- with thick electrolyte;
- with liquid electrolyte.
With liquid
In most cases, liquid electrolyte is used in modern traction batteries. The main advantage of such batteries is that they are quite simple to repair and maintain. In the event that, during operation, such a device does not violate the integrity of the hull, but steel plates are damaged, then with a simple replacement of the electrolyte, the traction battery for the outboard motor or other devices ultimately acquires its starting characteristics. In comparison with gel analogues, they differ in a small price, which is also quite important.
With thick
Traction batteries (boat and all others), which contain electrolyte as a jelly-like composition, do not require the formation of any special conditions for their charging. This opportunity is due to the unique features of this design. Such batteries do not require any special maintenance, which means they do not need plugs, technical holes or other parts through which depressurization could occur. Among the other positive qualities of such batteries, it is also worth noting that the electrolyte cannot penetrate beyond this design.
Such batteries provide for the presence of certain structural features, which ultimately noticeably affect some characteristics. In particular, this concerns the specific and nominal capacities, the possibility of urgent charging, the number of cycles of a full charge and discharge, all kinds of temperature limitations and a number of other parameters.
Operational Features
In order for such batteries to ultimately fully develop their service life, they must be operated in accordance with certain rules:
- Carefully monitor the external condition of the battery used. In particular, it is important to constantly check for any abnormalities in the insulation, oxidation of the terminals, the integrity of the housing, or electrolyte leakage.
- You need to regularly engage in thorough cleaning of all major components.
- It is important to check the electrolyte level and top up if necessary.
- Batteries that are not in operation should be stored in cool rooms without direct sunlight, as well as the negative effects of ambient temperature.
- Charging must be carried out in a timely manner in accordance with the requirements established in the attached operating instructions.
Security measures
It is worth noting several basic measures of operation:
- If the outboard motor is choked due to winding algae, you must completely disconnect the terminals of the trolling motor from the battery before the blades are cleaned of foreign elements.
- In the event that the protection system is activated, the voltage is completely removed from the battery terminals. In order to reset the protection system, that is, to reactivate the battery, you need to completely disconnect the load from the terminals and wait a bit. The time for self-disable protection directly depends on which system has worked at the moment.
- It is not recommended to use the terminals of the crocodile electric motor, because this significantly reduces the overall efficiency of using radiators for cooling the battery, and also reduces its resource.
- It is always necessary to check the quality of the connection of the terminals of the electric motor with the wires. In the event that the crimp connection is of sufficiently low quality, ultimately, during operation of the equipment, excessive heating of the radiators of the battery can occur due to too high transition resistance. Also, this is fraught with a decrease in power or a decrease in the total number of discharge-charge cycles of the battery. The best option is to solder the terminals to the wires, if possible.
- The battery must not be immersed in water. It is best to store it in a cool, dry place if it will not be used for its intended purpose.
- You should not restrict air access to the battery outputs, because the battery contacts are also the radiators of the battery controller.
- It is highly recommended not to use or to leave the battery in close proximity to high temperature sources for a long time.
By following these requirements, you can ensure the maximum life for your device.
