Today we will talk in detail about the Little Big project. The composition of the group will be given below. The team first made itself felt on April 1, 2013, posting their debut video Everyday I'm Drinking on the YouTube platform. After just a few months, the first line-up of the Little Big group was invited to perform at a concert with the acclaimed Die Antwoord, after which they were immediately called Russian greetings.
Such an analogy played the team only on hand. Until recently, an unknown group from St. Petersburg at one moment became popular not only in their native Russia, but also far beyond its borders. Fans also dubbed the project funeral rave (“funeral rave”) and “thrash-hoodo”, thanks to the wild, incomparable energy in videos and at concerts.
The name Little Big is due to the difference in the growth of the team members. The fact is that initially the group included two vocalists no more than 130 cm tall. To this day, Olympia Ivleva is an active participant, who, despite her unique growth, has incredible, powerful energy.
Little Big: line-up
- Ilya "Ilyich" Prusikin (frontman of the group, vocals).
- Sergey "Gokk" Makarov (sound producer, DJ).
- Olympia Ivleva (vocals).
- Anton Lissov, aka Mr Clown (vocals).
- Sophia Tayurskaya (vocals).
- Anna Cast (former member, first group).
Rock and more
According to the group’s vocalist Ilya “Ilyich” Prusikin, the rave genre, like all electronic music, is quite popular in our time, therefore the creators of the group did not invest a dime in its promotion, but at the same time became known throughout Europe. He says that the band members position themselves primarily as rock musicians. They consider their performance style a new form of this trend. At the same time, an addiction to electronic music helped to combine these two genres into one organic style.
During its existence, the group released two albums: With Russia From Love (2014) and Funeral Race (2015). The disks were in demand, due to which the main composition of the group traveled with concerts almost all of Europe. So began the creative take-off of the Little Big project. The composition of the group has changed somewhat since its inception. So, for example, the vocalist Anna Cast left the band. To this day, Sofia Tayurskaya takes its place.
Members of the group claim that the semantic load of the lyrics of their songs, as well as video clips, deride national stereotypes about Russians. By the way, Alina Pyazok, who is the founder of the group, shoots all the videos. Since Little Big have experience in creating videos and are the owners of their own production company, the team releases all the clips on their own. It’s hard enough to definitely call a group musical. Rather, it is a kind of art project with a rather motley team. The frontman has already earned popularity earlier, thanks to his show on the YouTube channel.
Similarity
Members of the group admit that they were influenced by completely different musicians, from famous giants of the rock scene, such as Cannibal Corpse, to the great classics. Despite the similarity of style and manners with the mega-popular South Africans Die Antwoord and constant comparison with them, Little Big themselves are individual.
Issue
Each new track, like the clip, is a mixture of a kind of humor, filled with one’s own view of Russian culture and folk songs, and a tough social position. Musicians have repeatedly emphasized that their manner is not related to hatred of the motherland, it’s just such a peculiar way to draw the attention of society to its problems. But despite this social position, the team remains a vivid mix of seemingly incompatible styles and incredible, contagious energy.
Now you know what are the features and originality of the project called Little Big. We also described the composition of the group above, as well as the changes that took place in it.
