In 2004, in the secret laboratories of AvtoVAZ OJSC (in which, however, both doors and windows are open around the clock), the concept car Lada 2116 was created. The auto giant's management continued to keep secret until the opening of the summer Moscow motor show. Then, the brand new sedan was presented to the general public with a powerful 112-horsepower engine and many newfangled options. It is understandable, the car had to be made especially valuable, since the cost of the project to create the Lada 2116 Silhouette brand was approaching $ 1 billion.
The car turned out to be large and even a little heavy. This was motivated by assumptions that in Russia the demographic boom is about to begin and large families will need large cars. But the question arises as to
whether a large family
needs a speed of 200 km / h, indicated on the speedometer and really possible on good Russian roads. After all, the price of a car is built just on speed indicators and engine power.
However, the car is not to blame for the fact that once again some pseudo-political disputes started around it. Technically, Lada 2116 is an undeniably successful engineering development, a car with front-wheel drive, disc brakes, both front and rear with ventilation, with hydraulic booster and ABS, an economical engine, average consumption is only 7 liters of AI-95 gasoline, good tire parameters - 195 / 65P15 or 205 / 55P16. Manual transmission 5 gears. Finally, the ultra-modern optics of the headlights and very stylish taillights.

Ten years for the buildup, and in 2015 AvtoVAZ should launch the Lada 2116 series. Such assumptions were made at a press conference in 2005. Well, so far everything is going according to plan. Something has been added to the project from partnership agreements with the French Renault, some were advised by General Motors, the general Lada 2116 line is already being traced, the model range will include both a sedan (2116 VAZ) and a station wagon (2117 VAZ) and a hatchback
(2118 VAZ). The latter has already been re-positioned, and very successfully, the engine size has decreased by 0.2 liters, and the power has remained the same - 112 hp. And the checkpoint received 6 assists, although why so much hatchback is unclear.
A lot of attention in the project development process is currently being paid to the brakes of the new Lada. The technically complicated replacement of brake pads is simplified, for this purpose a universal tooling is created, which allows changing them literally in the field. For two years now they have been trying to connect electronics to evenly distribute efforts on brake components, the code name of the system is EBD. And also the mechanism of emergency braking of BA is introduced. With him, Lada 2116 should stop dead in its tracks and, of course, get a good push in the ass from the truck following it. Let them not yawn and keep their distance!

But the most important thing that AvtoVAZ is talking with bated breath is getting the highest score in terms of car safety in the EuroNKAP rating. A prestigious European standard that paves the way for any tested vehicle. And if this result can be achieved by the example of Lada 2116, then $ 1 billion was not spent in vain, the project will be completed with honor. And Lada 2116, the price of which, according to the calculations of economists should not exceed 12 thousand euros, will nevertheless become a family car.
