KubSMU: departments and faculties. Kuban State Medical University

Many of our compatriots would like to live in the south. The southern cities have many advantages - the sea is nearby, and heat and fruits are abundant. Any city on the coast has these advantages in full. Including Krasnodar, which, in addition to the above, is also famous for its medical university. What is he, Kuban State Medical University in Krasnodar?

A few words about the city

You can’t get acquainted with the institute without even getting to know the city in which it is located. So, Krasnodar.

The area in which this glorious and respectable city is located is called Kuban. And this is no accident - after all, a river with that name flows there; and just on it is Krasnodar. This, by the way, is not the first name of the city - before, until 1920, it was called Ekaterinodar - in honor of Catherine the Second, of course, a monument which majestically rises in the city. And then the revolution happened, the Bolsheviks - and Yekaterinodar ceased to be such, but still remained the unofficial capital of the Kuban region. Some also call it the southern capital of Russia, although it is not even a millionaire - at the beginning of this year, the number of residents in Krasnodar was a little less than nine hundred thousand people.

Krasnodar embankment

Once upon a time, even before our era, a fortified settlement was located on the site of Krasnodar. And already at the end of the eighteenth century, the local Black Sea Cossacks received permission from the Empress Catherine the Great to erect a city on this site. They became the founders of Yekaterinodar, originally set up as a military camp, which later became a fortress and finally grew into a city. At the end of the eighteenth century, only six hundred people lived in the newly formed city, but already in the middle of the next century, Krasnodar became the capital of the newly emerged Kuban region.

In the twentieth century, Krasnodar survived the Civil War with the introduction of Red Army troops into the city, and the Great Patriotic War - with German occupation. And not just the occupation fell to this southern city, but also significant destruction - the city center was almost destroyed and rebuilt after the war. After the collapse of the Union, pre-revolutionary names were returned to many streets of the city (not only the cities themselves, but also parts of them were renamed into revolution), and now the historical districts of the city are being reconstructed.

Kuban Medical: the beginning

Leaving Krasnodar during the years of World War II, the Nazis tried to leave behind as much ruin as possible and blew up everything they could. They did the same with a beautiful three-story building near the city park, which stood out from other neighboring houses with its unusual architecture and facade decorations: cast-iron columns above the entrance, stucco molding, instead of glass - a multi-colored stained-glass window. At that time, the building was not so many years - a little over forty. It was erected at the very end of the nineteenth century according to the project of one of the most famous architects of that time. Now this building is known as the Kuban Medical University - one of the oldest in the city, by the way, and then, during the construction years, it was intended for the Diocesan Women's School.

Kuban State Medical University

And it became them - in those years, there was an urgent need for female educational institutions. The first students came to the new school in 1901, the latter left its walls immediately after the 1917 revolution. During the Civil War, the building housed everything: a tow truck, a military hospital, and a palace of labor ... There was a small separate building at the school, the then pupils were taught medicine. And during the war years it was there that they began to take the wounded.

In 1920, the Institute of Public Education appeared in the city. Thanks to him, the building of the former women's school was given to doctors - the first and fifth year of the corresponding faculty. And just a year later, the Krasnodar residents found their own separate medical institute - KubSMU with departments of a very different orientation, which has been successfully operating to this day, and which will be discussed later.

Departments and faculties

In total, there are seven faculties in Kuban Medical, which have a total of sixty-six departments. Each faculty has its own special ones. There is not enough to talk about all and two articles, but it is quite possible to cover some of them. However, first - briefly about the faculties of the university.

Faculties

As already mentioned, there are only seven of them, but two of them - pre-university training and advanced training, will not be discussed here. The remaining five are dental, pediatric, preventive, pharmaceutical and therapeutic. We’ll start with the latter.

Medical Faculty

First of all, it is necessary to explain what makes this faculty special. Who will be the medic who graduated from it? Surgeon? An ophthalmologist? Physiotherapist? The fact is that the faculty of medicine is a faculty, so to speak, of a wide profile. At first, the future luminaries of medicine gain general knowledge from their chosen field, and already at senior courses, narrow-profile classes begin - the one who chose surgery, is trained in its wisdom, the one who wants to be an “ear-nose” - nibbles the granite of this science. So, the medical faculty of KubSMU was the very first opened since the university began work. And for a long time it remained the only one - no less, but almost forty years. Only in the middle of the twentieth century, even in its second half, departments and faculties of other directions began to appear at the KubSMU.

Students of KubSMU

To this day, the Faculty of Medicine remains the leading unit of the Medical University of Krasnodar. Now more than two thousand students are studying at it, and among teachers who put knowledge in their heads, there are more than fifty professors. There are eighteen departments of the Faculty of Medicine - almost a third of the total number! Among them - operational surgery, and orthopedics with traumatology, and normal physiology, and much more.

Faculty of Pediatrics

A little less than medical - the pediatric faculty, in the walls of which about a thousand people are studying. It was founded in 1969 and since then has released many real, competent specialists. It was the creation of this faculty that contributed to the fact that the Kuban Medical University became one of the largest in the North Caucasus. It has eight departments, of which two are purely pediatric (pediatrics number one and number two).

Faculty of Dentistry

It was he who appeared second in KubSMU - this happened in 1963. Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine were sent to work in various specialties, but they did not have the qualifications of a dentist. The opening of the dental field has solved this problem.

Graduates of KubSMU

It is relatively "compact": only a little more than six hundred people study there. A feature of the faculty is that since its inception there has been conducted not only training and educational, but also scientific activity both among students and among employees. By the way, six doctors of science are among the latter. Like the pediatric department, there are eight departments in this faculty.

Faculty of Pharmacy

A place for the training of pharmacists appeared in KubSMU at the very end of the last century - in 1998. Along with the medical and preventive faculty, the pharmaceutical was among the last opened at the Kuban State Medical University. There are seven departments in it, of which the department of pharmacy is the main graduate, 400 students (and among them there are foreign ones). It is interesting that among those working at the faculty of departments there is one which, it would seem, does not belong here at all - philosophy, psychology and pedagogy. Graduates of the faculty receive a diploma with the specialty "pharmacist" prescribed in it. The Faculty of Medicine and Prevention, as mentioned above, this faculty was formed simultaneously with the pharmaceutical, and more - at least so far - new directions in KubSMU did not open. Students who choose this faculty learn the basics of general hygiene, bacteriology, virology, and the like. There are few students at the faculty - only about two hundred people, but six of them conduct such scientific activities that they were even noted with encouragement from the president of the country. The Faculty of Medicine and Prevention is the smallest not only in terms of the number of students, but also in the number of departments - there are only five of them. And just about some departments of KubSMU and it's time to say a little more.

Anatomy

In general, in KubSMU, and more specifically - at the Faculty of Medicine, two departments of anatomical nature. One is pathological anatomy, the other is normal. Let's say a couple of words about both of them.

Premises of KubSMU

The first was founded at the opening of the university by its first rector. Over the years, the department and its staff improved - so, closer to the thirties, the department appeared a textbook on pathological anatomy published by the then head, and in addition, the lecture material began to be read using transparencies. There was also a museum of macro drugs at the department - during the war it was lost, but then restored. At the beginning of this century, the department was combined with forensic medicine - but then everything returned to normal. The department is engaged in the study of lung tumors, rejection of a heart transplant, and so on.

Kuban State Medical University from the inside

The Department of Normal Anatomy at KubSMU appeared simultaneously with the above. It actively functioned before the war, when almost all employees went to the front, and the department itself, along with the remaining teachers, went to evacuate to Yerevan. Thanks to this, many valuable and necessary things belonging to the department were saved. Currently, nine members of the department are candidates of science. The department has a museum of anatomy with a large number of constantly replenishing exhibits.

General chemistry

The Department of General Chemistry at KubSMU belongs to the Faculty of Pharmacy. Now she is alone, and before, when the medical school was just “fledging”, there were three of them. The head is both a candidate of medical sciences and a doctor of pedagogy. In addition to her, another doctor and seven candidates work there. For fourteen years, the department has had graduate school in theory and methodology of training and education.

Department of Propaedeutics

The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of the Kuban State Medical University is also one of the oldest: the year of its foundation is 1922. It did not always bear such a name - at first it was called the department of diagnostics and private pathology, but in the thirty-first year it was liquidated and revived only three years later, already with a new “face”. Here, future doctors are taught to properly examine patients, think clinically, and observe medical ethics.

Kuban Medical University

In the Kuban Medical on Sedina Street there are still many different departments. It is impossible to tell about everyone, but each one is unique with something special. It is worth entering the KubSMU in order to be able to get to know them better!
