SHRUS stands for hinge of equal angular velocities. This mechanism is a ball bearing. It differs from the usual one in that it rotates across. SHRUS is responsible for transmitting torque from the transmission to the drive wheels. This hinge is quite simple. But despite this, the element is important in the design of the car and you need to constantly monitor it. Motorists call the SHRUS “grenade” for the shape of this bearing. From time to time, as well as due to wear and tear, “grenades” fail. Let's look at how the CV joint is replaced by a VAZ-2114. The same instruction is suitable for other cars from AvtoVAZ.
Faulty CV joints
The main problem due to which the hinges of the angular velocities wear out and become unusable is the dust and dirt that gets inside the bearing. The element is equipped with anther. But often these defenses are destroyed - be sure to monitor the condition of the anther. You can see it by looking under the car. In this case, the wheels are turned fully into one of the sides. If grease, tears or cracks are found on the rubber cover, the anther of the inner CV joint needs to be replaced .

If you shake the drive shaft by hand several times, then you can find out if there is any play in the mechanism. Another reason why it may be necessary to replace the SHRUS with a VAZ-2114. This is a lifetime. Modern spare parts for Lada are mainly manufactured in China and most often do not have high quality. Domestic spare parts are of a higher level, but marriage is sometimes found. Somewhat less common is the destruction of the retaining ring. Then the axial shaft comes out of the hinge during sharp turns. This leads to damage, and after a while - to the complete failure of the part. Symptoms of external hinge malfunctions are characteristic sounds, often knocking and cracking when cornering. This is true for an external CV joint. Signs of malfunction of the CV joint internal - clicks and
vibrations. When speeding up, they switch to the car body. The outer joint joint is most likely to fail. It works in more severe conditions. SHRUS internal (VAZ-2115 including) fails and requires replacement much less often. The malfunction is the development of a separator at the contact points of the balls. In the clip, they are installed with significant gaps. Therefore, if the wear of the separator is uniform, then this is not dangerous.
Methods of repair of the CV joint
There are three methods for restoring the hinge. The first is the complete replacement of the CV joint on the VAZ-2114 with the same new one. Thus, they work at the service station - even if the part can be restored, it still changes to a new one. The second method is to replace the cage along with bearings from repair kits. And permissible permutation of the joints of equal angular velocities. Repair kits for Samara’s second generation are on sale.

But if the necessary kit is not in the store, then this makes the SHRUS repair impossible. And the detail will have to be changed. Also note that there are no cups in the repair kit. They cannot be purchased separately. And the third way. If the cup and cage are worn on only one side, then you can make the original move. In this case, the repair of the CV joint means changing the “grenade” from the left half shaft to the right or vice versa. What does it give? The direction of rotation of the balls in the bearing changes, and they begin to work on unworn areas. The downside of this recovery is that the “grenades" will crackle during operation if the car moves in reverse gear. The hinge on which the boot exploded is to be repaired only if water, dust and dirt from the road did not manage to get into it.

The bearing must be disassembled, remove the destroyed boot and wash the inside with gasoline or kerosene. Next, replace the grease and install a new protective cover. This repair is over.
Why change CV joints
If damaged anthers are found during the inspection, they must be replaced. Indeed, otherwise, through cracks in the rubber, water and sand will get inside the part. Very soon, this abrasive mixture will disable the "grenade". When the car moves on turns, the joint of equal angular speeds can simply fall into two parts. After this, the car can no longer be operated. There is a significant risk that all oil contained therein will leak from the checkpoint. In order to avoid such a nuisance, it is necessary to timely change the anthers. How much does it cost to replace a CV joint with a VAZ-2114? The price of the service at the service station is 1000 rubles. As for the cost of spare parts, the outer CV joint for the VAZ-2114 costs about 1,500 r. depending on the manufacturer. Internal costs a little more expensive - within 2200 p.
Tool needed for replacement, preparatory work
Replacing the CV joint on the VAZ-2114 with your own hands will take about one hour of time. But you should prepare the necessary tool. For work, you will need keys for 17 and 19. You should also prepare a set of heads. Additionally, you will need a balloon wrench, mounting blades, a wrench, a jack. They also prepare SHRUS-4 grease, rags, pliers. For greater convenience, the car should be driven onto a flyover or into a pit.
The car is put on the parking brake or put in gear. To replace the SHRUS with the VAZ-2114 was even more secure, special locks are placed under the wheels. The car has internal and external angular velocity joints. Both grenades are located on the drive shaft. The process of replacing both internal and external is no different.
The algorithm for removing the outer CV joint
The first step is to remove the protection of the engine and gearbox. This can be done by unscrewing the bolts in front and the nuts in the back. Then oil is poured from the transmission. It is enough to drain 1/3 of the total amount of grease. Then, using a balloon wrench, the bolts holding the wheel are torn off.
Then, a nut is unscrewed by a head 30, which secures the outer CV joint. The car is lifted on a jack and the key unscrews two bolts on the hub that hold the
ball joint. Using mounting blades or a mount, the hub is moved away from the jet thrust. Then, if you pull the rack, you can pull out the finger and the hinge of angular velocities.
Dismantle of the internal SHRUS
To do this, open the hood and use a small mount to pull out the inner hinge from the gearbox. In order to do this, the mount is inserted between the “grenade" and the box. A sharp jerk pull the mount in the direction of the transmission. As a result, the part moves.
Dismantling the drive shaft
Then they move to the wheel arch and from there take out the drive shaft, on which there is already an inner and outer hinge. Using pliers, remove the clamps holding the anther from the parts. If the latter is destroyed, then it is torn.
Otherwise, you can simply move it to the center. If the cover is torn, you will need to replace the boot of the inner CV joint. These parts are sold separately and come with a spare part. To remove the hinge from the drive shaft, you must hammer with the hammer on the inside. After a few strokes, the part will fly off the shaft. The same operation must be done on the other hand.
Replacement process
Replacing the internal CV joint on the VAZ-2114 is as follows. First, the ring from the old joint is removed from the drive shaft. Instead, a part from a new kit and a new boot are installed. The "grenade" is hammered onto the shaft. Then the hinge is generously lubricated.
The boot is reliably fixed with clamps on the drive shaft and on the SHRUS itself. The outer hinge changes in a similar way. Then a nut is screwed onto an external constant velocity joint and the shaft is hammered back into the gearbox with a hammer. Replacement completed successfully. Now it remains to collect everything in the reverse order.
About anthers
Their replacement is required much more often than the hinges themselves. The SHRUS resource is about 150 thousand km. A rubber product walks at best no more than 30 thousand km. To replace the outer boot, it is not necessary to dismantle the drive. But if you need to replace the internal CV joint with the VAZ-2114, you will have to dismantle the entire drive.
