Before starting to develop this topic, let's look at Ozhegov’s explanatory dictionary and look at the designation of the word “indecency” there. This word is quite outdated and refers to debauchery and vile behavior. More recently, moral standards of behavior in society were much higher than now. That which was obscene, sinful and reprehensible, today is becoming the absolute norm, and even among believers who often do not recognize some of their sins, do not repent, but in every way seek excuse.
But no matter how people try to disguise their sins as something else, nothing can be hidden from God.
Bible obscenity
Well, now we turn to the bright pages of the wisest book - the Bible. In the Epistle to the Galatians, we consider how God relates to the “works of the flesh.” There we can read such lines in chapter 5 verse 19: “The works of the flesh are known; they are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, indecency. " The Apostle Paul provides a list of sexual impropriety. Everyone should accept these words, analyze and give himself an honest answer: do we consider any such thing a sin, or have modern society already influenced us so much that we should not think about it? Yes, and why? After all, life is short, and in the world there are so many temptations and pleasures, from which it is simply impossible to resist.
Nevertheless, even with this “prosperity of all evil”, sooner or later one will still have to think about what sin is and what its consequences may be.
Adultery
Profanity is lecherous behavior, otherwise - fornication and adultery, which in Greek sound like porneia. This word meant extramarital affairs, including homosexuality. A depraved woman was called pornos, even if she did not receive money for her services, simply doing romantic pleasure and satisfying her sexual desire. So, not only prostitutes on the sidelines of the night commit adultery, but also any other women who enter into extramarital affairs.
The word porneia can also be applied to a man when he engages in sexual relations with a woman out of wedlock. Even if he loves her, but they are not married, therefore they are in the grip of the sin of adultery. Such a woman is considered slutty, and a man uses her to satisfy his lustful desires. Our modern people have a completely different opinion on this and do not see anything bad and sinful about it.
Fornication and indecency
Few people now think about what the term “pornography” means, but it came from that pornos (fornication and adultery) in conjunction with the word grapho - to write. From here it turns out that "pornography" is written texts or thoughts about debauchery. When a person reads a text or considers photographs of sexual content, he also turns out to be engaged in adultery, albeit mentally.
This is precisely what Jesus said: “And I tell you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (“Gospel of Matthew” chapter 5, verse 28).
In the original scripture, adultery and fornication are indicated by one word - porneia, which includes in its concept all forms of sexual relations that occurred outside of marriage. But then the apostle Paul speaks of impurity.
Impurity
And what do the words “impurity”, “indecency” and “lust” mean by themselves? And again we turn to the Greek translation of the Greek word akatharsia - impurity, obscenity, dirt.
The New Testament also uses this word, which emphasizes the fact that everything obscene and depraved begins with lustful thoughts. Such a person was called an obsessed unclean spirit. What he will think most of all will take possession of him, will become his master. Therefore, such a person should first of all awaken in himself all the forces to control his thoughts and not think about something dirty and depraved.
Profanity - what is it?
And now, in fact, about the most important thing on our topic. So, indecency is what it is and how to understand it literally. This word itself, again, in Greek sounds like aselgeia and means intemperance, indiscipline and extravagance, leading to a depraved life. This word is on the list of sins for which the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed .
Profanity (the meaning of the word of which we have already deciphered) also applies to food intemperance. In the eyes of God, unification and excess in food are the same perversions. However, we again do not want to see anything reprehensible in this.
But God is merciful and can forgive the works of the flesh, but for this man must realize his sin and repent for it before the Supreme Creator. The repentant sinner must ask the Holy Spirit to help see the sinful deeds of the flesh through the eyes of God, and only then can one recognize his sin and its disgusting and destructive nature. After this, you no longer want to repeat your mistakes, and life will certainly begin to change for the better.
Forgiveness from the Lord
So, indecency is what? And this is a sin! It is imperative to note that sincere confession to God brings forgiveness. For people who are offended by your actions, you also need to pray that God will send them the grace of forgiveness so that you can establish good relations with them. We must not forget that the Lord is love, goodness and forgiveness. Open your heart and soul to God and fill them with the Holy Spirit, who is the main protector and helper of man from everything unclean and evil.
