Rims lose their beauty over time, which was on their store stands. During operation, they inevitably show traces of stone bumps and corrosion, various scratches, which spoil their entire appearance. But in most cases, such defects focus only on the upper protective layers. Therefore, they can be returned to their previous form, and this requires painting discs. With your own hands, almost everyone can do such a job.
To perform this type of work on your own you will need:
- warm water and laundry soap;
- primer;
- metal brush;
- hatchet, knife or flat screwdriver;
- solvent or acetone;
- sandpaper:
- paint;
- varnish.
Stages of painting discs
Painting rims is a fairly lengthy event. Therefore, be patient. And all the coloring work can be divided into several separate stages.
Rough cleaning
First you need to clean the discs of dirt, pieces of rust and old paint. Initially, we peel off the upper layers of pollution with a screwdriver or a small hatchet. Or another tool with which it will be most convenient to do the job.
Soft cleaning
Next, clean the rims of the small remains of old paint. This work can be done manually using sandpaper, or using a grinder with an emery wheel. The result should be a rim without traces of old paint.
Rinsing discs
After the previous stages of work, a lot of fine dust remained on the disks, which must be carefully removed. If this is not done, then such a painting of the discs with your own hands will be poor-quality and short-lived. Rinse off residual dirt best with warm water and
laundry soap, then rinse several times simply with warm water and dry them.
Primer
Clean and dry discs must be treated with a primer. This is necessary so that the surface has good adhesion to coatings. But before starting the primer process, it is necessary to degrease the surface of the discs. For these purposes, acetone or white spirit is suitable. The priming process itself is carried out in several stages: one layer of solution is applied, after 10 minutes a second is applied, then a third. Moreover, if a drop forms on the surface during priming, then it should be removed with fine-grained sandpaper. After applying all the layers, the disks are dried for a period of time set by the soil manufacturer to ensure the highest quality color.
Dyeing
DIY painting of discs at this stage consists in applying a paintwork coating to the primed surface. The principle of application is no different from the application of a primer. The only thing you should pay attention to is compliance with the safety rules that are indicated on the paint containers. After applying the last coat of paint, the discs are left at normal room temperature in a well-ventilated area until completely dry. This is necessary for good adhesion of the paint and primed surface.
The
discs can also be painted with
powder paint, but here already have their own nuances that are inherent only to this method of painting. Moreover, this method is almost impossible to implement without the availability of appropriate equipment.
Varnishing
The last step is to apply varnish on the painted and dried surface. This operation is necessary in order to create a protective layer for the paint, as well as, depending on the type of varnish, to give gloss. After applying the varnish, it must be given time for complete drying in accordance with the instructions for use.
All! DIY painting discs finished. And, as you can see, this operation is not particularly costly either financially or physically, with the exception of time.
