The most economical cars: environmental protection and saving your own money.

In the European Union, the automakers' agreement will soon come into force, which stipulates a reduction in the exhaust emissions to the level of 140 g / km, which will lead to a decrease in the consumption of fuel consumed. It is this indicator that is today the main and decisive criterion for the purchase of production cars after increasing gas prices by more than 60%. Now it is planned that the consumption will decrease to 5-6 l / 100 km for all cars using gasoline or diesel fuel. So, what are the most fuel efficient cars today ?

Autoclubs and auto-magazines took over the functions of identifying automobile brands that already meet the necessary environmental standards and which still require equipment upgrades. Their primary task was the choice of car models in the category of "most economical cars."

The rating was based on the NEFZ cycle and EU methodology, which are based on the principle of measuring specific fuel consumption of 80/1268 EWG and standardizing substances belonging to the toxic class, 70/220 EWG. Leadership in the ranking, which recently published the auto magazine "Auto Zeitung", is occupied by the most economical cars whose engines consume diesel fuel. However, not surprising! Such classes of cars took the first 92 places. They were competed in hybrids that are now fashionable - cars with a gasoline electric drive engine. Measurements were made without regard to driving techniques and external factors. It is known that motorists spend two thirds of their engine paths in urban street traffic and a third in suburban.

The rating of the class of mini-cars in the category "most economical cars" was headed by Smart ForTwo based on a diesel engine, the fuel consumption of which amounted to only 3.8 liters. The first place in this rating with him could be shared by the VW Polo Blue Motion, if not for the difference in 0.1 liter fuel consumption. The owner of the gas engine Citroen C1 took only 21th place. Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 107 showed the same fuel consumption, but were in the next place in terms of pricing and shared it also on the principle of the same architecture.

The compact class rating in the β€œmost economical cars” category was led by the Toyota Prius hybrid , which has an advantage over the Renault Megane diesel engine by only 0.2 liters.

The sports car class presented the top ten, which even included four gasoline leaders: Brera 2.4 JTDM from Alfa Romeo, then Coupe 2.0 TFSI from Audi, then Coupe 2.0 from Hyundai and, finally, 325i Coupe from BMW. The first position among the most economical vehicles was taken by a model of a car with a gasoline type engine of the highest class (luxury category) - Lexus LS 600h.

The environmental policy of European countries is aimed at introducing economical compact city cars. England, Germany and France, for example, have already imposed restrictions on the entry of SUVs into large cities and capitals. A proposal is being considered for introducing toll fare for cars with increased fuel consumption. When buying, tax breaks and discounts are provided for the most economical cars.

Some expert advice for those who do not want or cannot afford to change the machine:

1) It is not necessary to warm up the engine in cold weather, most modern cars do not need this.

2) If possible, shift gears through one: from the 1st to the 3rd, and you can start immediately from the 2nd.

3) When idle for more than 30 seconds, it is better to turn off the engine.

4) The type of braking that blocks the flow of fuel in many modern cars saves both fuel and brakes.

5) Try to ride smoothly and avoid short-distance trips. Even riding instead of speed will save you up to 2 liters of fuel, as the test showed.

6) Keep the pressure in the tires of an unloaded car 0.2-0.5 bar higher than it should be. Use the air conditioner only when necessary. Do not overload the trunk.
