Why fluoridation of teeth?

As practice shows, the majority of people who turn to the dentist with a particular problem need to strengthen tooth enamel. The main indications for strengthening are hypersensitivity and prevention of caries. Such a need arises due to a lack in the body of the substances necessary for the strength of tooth enamel, calcium and fluorine.

The most useful procedure in this case is fluoridation of the teeth - coating them with solutions and varnish with a high fluorine content. This procedure allows you to saturate your teeth with fluoride ions, which prevents tooth decay and tooth decay.

Tooth fluorination is of two types: simple and more modern and effective deep fluorination.

The first type is very widespread, it is used in almost all dental institutions and is completely painless. Simple tooth fluoridation is carried out in two ways:

- using individual "spoons" - casts of teeth made of wax and filled with a fluorine-containing preparation. Such "spoons" are applied to the teeth for 10-15 minutes. To achieve the effect you need to repeat the procedure at least 10 times, i.e. Visit the dentist 10 times;

- using varnish, which is applied with a special brush to the surface of the teeth. This method of fluoridation reduces the number of visits to the dentist up to 3-4 times;

With simple fluorination, fluorine is not deposited in the depth of the pores, as occurs with deep fluorination.

Deep fluoridation of teeth is based on the use of enamel-sealing preparations.

Before the deep fluoridation procedure, teeth and plaque are cleaned , then they are dried using warm air and the teeth are coated with enamel-sealing liquid with a tampon. After a couple of minutes, the teeth are dried again, and then, using a tampon, they are coated with a solution of calcium hydroxide.

During the procedure of coating the teeth with enamel-sealing liquid, fluorine adheres to the pores of the destroyed tooth enamel, and when coated with calcium hydroxide, crystals of silicic acid gel and calcium fluoride are formed. These crystals penetrate into even the smallest pores of enamel, and the concentration of fluorine is five times higher than with simple fluorination.

Unfortunately, fluoride loss in teeth and related problems are not limited to adults. In Russia, according to statistics, one third of children aged ten to twelve have caries. This happens because the practice of caries prevention is not widespread in our country. At the same time, in Europe, where fluoridation of milk teeth is a fairly common procedure, only 1 out of a hundred children suffers from dental caries. For children, as well as adults, you can do both simple and deep fluoridation. Thanks to this procedure, the enamel becomes much harder, tooth sensitivity and the risk of tooth decay are reduced.

As an alternative to strengthening enamel of deciduous teeth, silvering is also used. This method consists in applying a solution containing silver to the teeth. This solution forms an invisible film on the teeth, which slows down the development and formation of caries. It should be understood that this procedure is not a treatment, it is simply the preservation of tooth enamel, which prevents its further destruction until the moment the child grows up. This is enough to fully preserve children's teeth.

It should be noted that both fluoridation and silvering are quite simple and painless procedures and do not need to be anesthetized. In dentistry in the West, they are extremely widespread and gradually become familiar in domestic dentistry.

Fluoridation and silvering procedures should be carried out with a certain frequency, which depends on the condition of the teeth and will be recommended by the attending physician.
