The task of sports judges is to carefully monitor compliance with the rules of the game, the rules of the competition and be objective in determining the winner. All of their staff involved in servicing a particular competition is united in a panel of judges. If competitions are envisaged for several different sports, each of the programs requires the appointment of its own college.
How is it organized?
The leadership is taken by the main panel of judges. The organization that arranges these specific competitions (club, sports committee, etc.) forms its composition. The number of judges, as well as their qualifications, is determined by the competition rules adopted in this sport. The higher the competition, the higher the category required of a judge.
Who does this board include? The list of persons included in it usually consists of the chief judge (chairman of the panel of judges), his deputy, senior judges (leading various sections of the competition) and judges who are assigned separate responsibilities. In addition, the commandant of the competition and the doctor must be in its composition.
Decisions made by the panel of judges are subject to review or cancellation only by the organization responsible for the competition in case of violation of its rules.
What is her role
The panel of judges first of all has to ensure the normal course of the competition, create equal conditions for each participant, as well as evaluate the results as objectively as possible. The chief judge is entrusted with the management of the event in full. Its functions include monitoring the readiness of a sports facility, adherence to time limits and compliance with its program, resolving all disputes arising in the process. He also needs to analyze the incoming protests and certify the fidelity of the determined record results.
Duties are distributed among the individual judges. And at the end of the competition, the head judge must submit a written report to the organizer.

If necessary, the head judge is allowed to make changes to the competition program until the athlete is not allowed to participate, in respect of which violations of the requirements of the sports rules have been identified (for example, discrepancy by age or weight category, etc.). The chief judge may remove from participation in the competition an inadequately proven player (for rudeness or unethical behavior), he may remove from the judges one of them who cannot cope with his own duties.
A very important and responsible component is the secretariat. It is headed by the chief secretary of the judiciary board of the competition. Its functions include accepting registered applications for each participant, drawing lots, processing protocols and summing up the results of personal and team events. And besides, he is obliged to inform the judges in a timely manner with the provision of any necessary materials to them, as well as notify the audience and participants about the course of the event with a detailed general report upon its completion.

The refereeing board for track and field athletics (as well as swimming, skating and skiing, cycling) includes a starter judge. His job is to track the athletes' distance in strict accordance with the given draw. He takes care of observing the rules and equal conditions for each athlete. In case of a wrong start (for example, before a signal), the starter’s job is to return the athlete back. Some sports require the presence of a judge at the finish line. He must determine the sequence of the participants to reach the finish line, keep track of distance segments, laps, etc. In large competitions that require special accuracy, when using the photo finish, there are often controversial situations where the difference between the athletes completing the distance is not visible to the naked eye. In this case, the judge at the finish has the right to postpone the announcement of the winner until watching the video.
The task of the informing judge is to convey information about the course of the competition to the viewer. His work involves the prompt receipt of information from the secretariat and communication to the audience all the necessary data on the progress of the competitions, participants, etc.
If the competition involves the passage of a long distance (running, skiing or cycling), the position of the head of the distance and the special judge of the distance is introduced. In every sporting game there is always a judge on the field (an example is a soccer referee), in boxing competitions there is a judge in the ring, and in wrestling competitions there is a judge on the carpet. In addition, any board has a judge with participants. His responsibility is the timely appearance of the athletes at the start, and he must also communicate to them any decisions made by the board.

The members of the college are usually present at the competitions in a uniform uniform consisting of a suit with a shirt and tie. His responsibilities include:
- verification of the correctness of applications;
- organization of the draw;
- scheduling meetings approved by the head judge, and reporting it to the coaches (representatives);
- keeping minutes of meetings of the main panel of judges;
- execution of its orders and decisions;
- receiving protests and informing the head judge about them;

And who is a secretary judge? His task is to work under the leadership of the chief secretary.
