Since that time, not only the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg itself has been leading the history, but also all higher technical education in Russia. Since then, the institute has been renamed many times and it has gone through many events related to the history of our country, but to this day its doors are open for those who want to receive a state-level technical education not only in the mountain direction, but also in many others.

Material base

University rector Vladimir Stefanovich Litvinenko very much values the position of the institution. A lot of work is also being done on the arrangement of buildings and the acquisition of equipment for laboratory work and research. For practical work, the latest machines with numerical software, the latest equipment for geodetic measurements, environmental studies are functioning. A military department is functioning for young people, where they receive the military rank of reserve sergeant for the position of commander of a portable anti-aircraft missile systems department.

The university has three academic buildings, and all of them are located on Vasilyevsky Island. The newest is designed for the first and second courses, so that they do not have to clash with older courses, and this helps to organize students and teachers for more optimal work. The main building is located at the intersection of the embankment of Lieutenant Schmidt and 21 Lines of Vasilievsky Island.

Near it is the legendary icebreaker Krasin, and in the educational building there is the Mining Museum, which contains minerals and various stones that have been collected since its foundation. On the territory of all training centers there are many dining rooms where students and teachers eat at affordable prices, lower than in many of the best dining rooms in St. Petersburg.

Sports at St. Petersburg Mining University

Gym

Also, the university has physical education centers equipped with many simulators and other equipment necessary for conducting trainings and competitions in a wide range of disciplines, and passing the TRP standards. Recently, the pool was restored in one of the training centers, so that students can go swimming for free under the supervision of professional trainers. The University is proud that all coaches and many teachers have the ranks of candidates for masters of sports and masters of international class in any sport.

Dormitories at the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg

3 dorm room

The university is ready to provide places in six dormitories to all nonresident students. The cost of living in them, of course, is much larger than many hostels, but the comfort in them justifies the price. Otherwise, they would not be filled to capacity. All of them are also located on Vasilievsky Island, so students do not have to travel by metro, and most often by land transport. In each of the hostels there are computer classes where you can perform homework, prepare for exams or just get together with friends and strangers to chat. The rooms must be kept clean, the commandant can come periodically and check it. But on the other hand, you can use your own appliances in the rooms and there is no curfew like in other university dormitories.

Rules of conduct and wearing uniforms

Rules in Gorny is a separate issue. Each student has his own chip card, through which he passes to the university and his dormitory. Another difference is the lack of many so-called β€œtails”. All debts must be paid on time. It is worth noting that exams in all subjects except the humanities are held in the form of a test for four answer options, which, of course, makes the student’s life easier.

Students in uniform

The main distinguishing feature of a student at the Mining Institute is uniform - a tunic for young people and a jacket for girls. It also requires a white shirt or blouse, dark classic shoes and trousers (skirts) and a plain black tie for men. This causes some difficulties, but all students are equal to each other, and by the way, all teachers and even the rector must wear the same type of clothing. Jackets and tunics are issued to all applicants for the first year at budgetary places and at the first year of graduate school. Otherwise, everyone is free to wear various jewelry, hairstyles that will not offend anyone's feelings and will not interfere with educational activities.

But many students, graduates, and teachers speak positively of the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg. Here, in 1997, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin defended his thesis, and his scientific adviser was rector Litvinenko.
