In 2008-2009, the decline in sales of SUVs from the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant reached a critical point. To solve the problem, the company's management headed for lower prices. This car is by no means new, but just an ordinary Patriot with a shortened frame. The prefix "Sport" in the name of the car appeared with an eye on the
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (an off-road car based on a pickup truck, more accessible than a regular Pajero) and on the SsangYong Actyon Sports, which has nothing to do with sports. Only eight months were given for the creation of the UAZ Patriot Sport and 38.5 million rubles were allocated (which by the standards of the automotive industry amounts to a negligible amount). The frame and outer panels of the rear doors went from the UAZ-3160 Simbir off-road vehicle from the 1990s. Korea's Spicer axles and one-piece Dymos gearbox did not touch the bridges. UAZ Patriot Sport lacks some of the pleasant things that are in the ordinary Patriot. These are pipe steps, a hatch, a heater for the passenger compartment, roof rails. But in the "expensive" version there is a visor-spoiler on the rear door of the car. Everything else can be purchased at the dealership. For example, installing a hatch costs 25 thousand rubles, an additional stove costs twenty three thousand rubles. Sport does not and will not have the anti-lock braking system that an ordinary Patriot has. The fact is that it is impossible to rearrange it with UAZ Patriot, since Sport has other dimensions, weight distribution and weight, and it takes about a year to spend on sea trials and re-calibration.
Due to the small amount of time, the suspension was not reconfigured either. Therefore, the smoothness of the UAZ Patriot Sport's movements has become somewhat worse. But maneuverability increased, as the turning radius decreased. And the off-road qualities of the new car have become better.
