Elite Moscow Synagogue in Maryina Roscha

The synagogue in Maryina Roscha is an elite Moscow synagogue. It is located in the Northeast region of the capital. The synagogue is known to the general public for the fact that during the Soviet era it was considered the only synagogue that did not recognize any Gods.

The history of the Moscow Synagogue

Since the 19th century, the microdistrict Maryina Roshcha has been the haven of the Jews. But for quite some time they did not have their own synagogue. Only in 1926, a dilapidated log house was built in the area. For many years of Jewish spiritual life, it became the official Jewish center. Before emigration, the Lubavitcher Rebbe Schneerson lived in the synagogue. He never deprived the attention of Soviet Jews. Very often he sent them shlihim with finances, spiritual books, minors and prayer equipment. Throughout the entire Soviet reign, the Synagogue in Maryina Roshcha supplied money to all Moscow Jews.

The employees of the center were engaged in the upbringing of the young generation in national spiritual traditions. The Jews opened children's camps. In 1988, a yeshiva was opened at the synagogue. Today, this organization is considered a religious Jewish university - a symbol of the revival of Judaism. Since 1991, with the assistance of the synagogue, the world-famous Lechaim magazine has been published.

Serious failures

In 1993, a log synagogue in Maryina Grove burned down. The fire completely destroyed the sacred books, inventory, furniture and the building itself. Only the Ark of the Covenant survived, which was discovered on the remains of the ashes. Its pages were not touched by water or terrible fire. Inspired by such an inexplicable miracle, the Jews began the construction of a new, more equipped synagogue. And in 1996 (three years after the fire), the new building opened its doors for parishioners. The building was surprisingly beautiful thanks to the stained-glass windows and spiritual heritage.

But the troubles did not stop there. In the same year, the building was damaged by a strong explosion. And two years later, in 1998, a bomb exploded in a new synagogue, which completely destroyed the entire northeastern wall. But after the first explosion, the Jews began the construction of a new building. So when the explosion destroyed the dominant synagogue, the Jews already had a new haven. Now here is the spiritual center of the Bukhara Jews. The building has been restored and decorated with beautiful stained glass windows.

New Synagogue Building

In 2000, the Synagogue in Maryina Grove boasted a new 7-story building. September 18, on the eve of New 5761, the grand opening of the IEC took place. The building was built according to the sketches of Israel Godovich, an Israeli architect from Tel Aviv. The interior designer was Gadi Alperin. Jerusalem stone was used as a sacred attribute for the decoration of the facade. It was from this material that the Sacred Wailing Wall was built .
