In today's world, democratic forms of government are widespread , such as a parliamentary or presidential republic. But at the same time, there is forty-one countries where the monarchy has survived, and it has various forms. European countries with a monarchy are the Vatican, Monaco and Liechtenstein. There is this form of government in Africa. You can name Lesotho, Morocco and Swaziland. The modern monarchy has many faces, and has entrenched itself both in the Middle East and in democratic Europe. For example, a constitutional monarchy, when the king has minimal power or the monarch is completely deprived of it, and retains his throne as a tribute to traditions: Great Britain, Japan. But, at the same time, there are countries with an absolute monarchy, in which all power is concentrated in the hands of one ruler. This is discussed in the article.
Absolute monarchy - its characteristic
A form of government, called the absolute monarchy, is characterized by the fact that one person rules the country. Legislative power, as well as executive and judicial, is concentrated in the hands of the monarch. You can mention such countries with absolute monarchy like Saudi Arabia, Oman, the Principality of the UAE, Qatar.
The country is ruled by a monarch, in which there is an advisory body or parliament (it includes the most respected persons). However, all decisions of the latter, however, require the consent of the crowned person. The role of the constitution is played by the holy book of Muslims - the Quran. The family council in the Arabic forms of an absolute monarchy is an informal institution, which, in addition to the monarch’s relatives, includes special connoisseurs of the Koran. There were cases when a family council (for example, in Saudi Arabia) deposed the king, and a new member of the family was elected in his place. The monarch not only rules the country, but also unites secular and spiritual power, occupying the highest dignity. He is considered an imam in a country where the Muslim religion is recognized as state. Therefore, the modern absolute monarchy that exists in the Middle East is called absolutist-theocratic.
Despite the fact that countries with an absolute monarchy were formed on the basis of the feudal aristocracy, they now thrive thanks to oil wealth. Most of the power is concentrated in the big financial bourgeoisie. The countries of the Persian Gulf, where the monarchy is preserved and there is no parliament and constitution, have turned their citizens into quite wealthy people. For example, there is publicly available free medicine, free education and upkeep in the most prestigious educational institutions in the world. The state provides housing for young families. Arab countries with an absolute monarchy are social states aimed at increasing the well-being of the people.
Sultanate of Oman
Considering countries with an absolute monarchy, we can stop as an example on the Sultanate of Oman. This state, located in Southwest Asia, does not have a constitution; the Qur'an plays its role. The government is chosen by the monarch himself. It is called the Council of State. Its first meeting was held in 1998. Besides him, there is also the Shura Council, whose leader is appointed by the king. The Shura Council is responsible for the discussion of five-year development plans, environmental concerns, and appeals to the Sultan to express their opinions. Only the sultan can decide international affairs. The posts of major government officials, the prime minister, and governors are usually held by relatives of the king.
How is the monarchy superior to other forms of government? First of all, it is an opportunity to ensure the integrity of the country and give it balance. Of course, this form of government cannot automatically resolve all economic, social and political issues. But at the same time, states with an absolute monarchy are stable entities at the political and social level.
