Almost any differences in the design of some cars lead to fierce debate. This applies to the fuel used to operate the internal combustion engine, the side on which
located steering wheel, and so on. A very common debate today is the choice between second-hand Japanese equipment and new domestic. But most of all people (even those who are not very versed in car design) argue about what is better: front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive?
This can be said endlessly, since each side can bring a bunch of arguments in favor of precisely its own version. Often in such discussions it is simply impossible to put an end, because if there is a difference in the drive, then each of the options has fans who are ready to defend their point of view.
In the automotive industry, front - wheel drive, rear- wheel drive and four - wheel drive are shared. There are also various variations that may relate to one of the above. Each of them has its pros and cons. For example, front-wheel drive will not allow drift. But few people remember this until they have to make maneuvers on slippery or wet roads.
It is worth noting that in emergency situations each type of drive requires special actions from the driver to get out of a turn, often they have cardinal differences. In order to get out of the skid, the front-wheel drive forces the driver to press the accelerator pedal, while on the rear-wheel drive car , on the contrary, it is necessary to dump gas. That is why in Western driving schools classes are divided into two stages and teach their cadets the subtleties of driving in any situation.
Front-wheel drive until some time did not exist. Previously, the engine was installed longitudinally on the machines, since this made it easier to connect a driveshaft going to the rear axle to it. But today the situation is different, and the torque in the front-wheel drive cars from the engine is transmitted directly to the wheels.
Due to good maneuverability, the popularity of such a car in recent years is growing more and more. Recently, news came from Germany that
BMW front-wheel drive will also be installed. Most likely, by 2020, some of these machines of this brand will reach 40% of the total. This is unusual to hear, because all the time BMW was engaged in the production of rear-
wheel drive or, at the most,
four-wheel drive cars.Probably, front-wheel drive attracts drivers with its advantages. Although front-wheel drive does not allow organizing a high-quality drift, the car obeys the steering wheel better, is more convenient to drive in winter, and such a system is cheaper, easier and simpler. The latter affects the final price of the car. BMW plans to install front-wheel drive in its cars soon.
In fairness, it is worth noting that such a system is not perfect. Due to its design, it increases the turning radius, and in the passenger compartment, the vibration of the motor is strongly felt. When accelerating, steering wheel jitter may occur.
