The time comes when the car needs to be painted. The reasons for this can be different: a scratch, the replacement of some parts, burnout, etc. Paint the car with your own hands can be done in several ways. The painting process depends on the nature of the damage and the car itself.
Car scratch
In cases where a scratch is found on the car, it is necessary to check its depth. If the scratch has not reached the paint, but only on the surface of the varnish, then polishing is necessary. To do this, the scratch area is erased with fine sandpaper (preferably Mirka 2000) and polished after lapping paste.
A deep scratch that has reached the metal requires painting, otherwise metal corrosion will begin . To do this, scratch the place of sanding with sandpaper 360. Depending on the car, a car can be painted with its own hands in two ways: using a spray can or using a spray gun. Most often, spray cans are used to paint parts of old cars. This kind of painting is not considered professional, but sufficient for old cars. In addition, it can be done by any car owner without much effort. The process is quite simple - after preparing the surface (grinding and degreasing) several layers of paint are applied to it with a spray can.
Do-it-yourself car painting with a spray gun is considered professional. The quality of painting depends on the equipment: gun, compressor, filter. From the quality of materials: paint, primer, putty, solvent. Itβs also from the preparation and conditions of painting: grinding, putty, chamber temperature, etc. However, the process is not as complicated as it seems at first glance. High-quality painting of a car in metallic with your own hands can be done only with the help of a spray gun. Most often, this kind of painting is carried out for used and not old cars. Process sequence:
- First of all, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the car for painting. If necessary, straighten jammed parts and use putty to make them as even as possible. Try to keep the putty layer as thin as possible.
- Further, the surface is covered with two or three layers of soil. (Using a primer gun.) The soil must dry within 12-24 hours. After that, it is polished with 360 emery paper before the gloss disappears from the surface.
- Then the surface is wiped with a sticky cloth (suitable SilFix) and a cloth moistened with gasoline (for degreasing).
- Several layers of paint are applied. Move the gun smoothly and evenly. The paint should dry for 20-30 minutes.
- After making sure that there are no gaps, 2 layers of varnish are applied. The varnish should dry for several days.
- If desired, you can polish the surface of the varnish.
Part replacement, burnout, and other cases
In these cases, painting the car with your own hands is the same as in the case of a scratch. Only here there are some nuances. In the event of replacement of a part, soil coating may not be required (if the part is already covered with soil). Also in these cases, the parts are painted completely and therefore it is more difficult to determine whether the car was painted. In general, it is best to paint car parts in full, rather than in pieces.
DIY car painting is a very interesting process. You can draw some kind of pattern on your car. Diligence and imagination have no boundaries.
Attention!
Evaporation from paint, varnish and other materials is harmful to the body, so be sure to use special masks. The use of rubber masks with carbon filters is recommended .
